WELL, we're three years too late for The Simpsons movie and seven months late for the show’s 20th season celebration… but Geeks Who Drink has decided that right now is as good a time as any to spread Yellow Fever: a pub quiz devoted entirely to The Simpsons.

Whatever Ozzie and Harriet or The Ed Sullivan Show was to previous generations, The Simpsons is that and more to anyone born between, say, 1965 and last Thursday. That’s because unlike so many hyperbolized golden age TV series, The Simpsons doesn’t suck.

OK, they’ve had their share of sucky seasons. We’re not trying to deny reality here, but all told it’s a show that's more than a show - it's a cultural institution that defies niche marketing in an ever-fragmenting media landscape. It’s something everyone at the office and the truck stop and the bail bond agency can agree on.

The Yellow Fever Quiz will cover everything from the show’s minor characters to the musical numbers, the catch phrases, the holiday episodes, the marketing, the movie, the writers and voice actors… anything yellow with four fingers is game!

$5 per person to play. Cash purse for 1st place (amount is based on the total number of players)

Six player maximum on all teams. You do NOT need a full team to play.

Sorry Redhook fans, you'll have to get your boozy fix in moms basement tonight, it'll be just like the good ol' days. Memories...*sigh*. There was some plumbing issues going on, no that's not a euphemism after my night full of quaaludes a poor, poor Filipino man. This is legitimate, Forecaster's is closed and will be back in action next week for all your geeky/boozy needs.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may've caused you and/or undue hardship. So much so that we'll make it up to you, by that we mean give you the quiz next week and remind you to look at the blog from last week and reminisce.

Dear Quizzers,

Sadly, the rumors are true. Fado terminated us after a visual round that appeared in Thursday’s quiz in Denver. The round is posted below.

After three tables complained and left, Fado’s regional manager came to the decision that GWD has done irreparable harm to its reputation and could not be trusted running the quiz at either location.

We respect Fado’s decision to fire us. Our quiz is not rated G. Did this round cross the line? I suppose that depends on your politics and, um, where the line is. If you’re conservative, hopefully you’ve played our quiz when we’ve made fun of liberals and the far left. We strive to be equal opportunity offenders.

The round was intended as satire. While explaining a joke is almost always the opposite of funny, it’s probably worthwhile in this case. The aim was to parrot the hysteric ideological schizophrenia of the far right, i.e., “teabaggers,” whose protest signs suggest our President is simultaneously a communist, a Nazi, a terrorist and an abortionist — among other things. Using photos of actual protesters illustrated that they were the target of satire, rather than suggesting President Obama is any of those things. Political geeks and Third Reich scholars know that Nazism and Communism are conflicting ideologies so how could Obama be both, right? Oh well, that’s the subject of another blog.

We’re not looking for sympathy or to organize a pitchfork mob; we just wanted to let our players know what happened and to state that we are standing by our editorial decision. We think the round is effective, if not wildly sophisticated, satire and it’s in keeping with our editorial policy of not being boring. Sometimes there’s a price to pay for that and this is one of those times. It probably won’t be the last.

While we believe Fado may have made its decision in haste, we bear them no ill will and wish them the best in their future endeavors.
