Boom!
RobotNarwhal

This past weekend, I experienced Boom Cup.  Seriously.  I’m almost 40, and I had never seen this…thing.  I mean, I know about Beer Pong, but Boom Cup – that’s a whole different level of party game messy drunk…mess. Madness.  In case you aren’t up, it’s one of those games you need to play in a space where spilling a shit ton of cheap beer is ok.  Garage, yard, whatnot.  You need plastic cups, and ping pong balls.  And you take turns with two people simultaneously trying to bounce the ball into a stack of cups.  The crazy enters when the person to the right beats the person to their immediate left.  Then,

Does Spelling Count?
Juliana

There were two pairs and a team of there down at Dickey’s tonight. They were ready to battle for glory. At first look of the visual round, all teams realized that sports are hard. They were wondering where all the geography questions were. During the World War 1 round, I was asked if there was bonus points for spelling. Sadly not, but Farts ‘R Us and  You’re a Quizard, Harry did spell Versailles correctly so

The One with Powers Boothe
Quizmaster Kris

We lost a couple great people last week in Seattle's native son Chris Cornell and Powers Boothe. Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog... None of those historic bands would be around if it wasn't for Cornell. That voice, his lyrical skills, he'll seriously be missed. We also lost character actor Powers Boothe who was a tour de force in just about EVERY thing he acted in from Red Dawn to Deadwood to 24. My personal favorite was his Cy Tolliver in Deadwood, which if you haven't seen GO WATCH IT! Quiz Things!Land Sharks made it through the first 3 rounds in the lead after jokering

April showers bring Fox News founder deaths
Ivan the Adequate

This week’s winners: I thought they were crazy when they didn’t circle their joker for the music round, but I clearly had too little faith, as Werewolves Not Swearwolves eventually dominated the latter half of the quiz and secured a solid first place victory.   Best team name of the week: Remember a simpler time when Karl Pilkington begrudgingly traveled the world and we laughed at his misery? Now juxtapose that with the most hated man in America doing the same thing and you get an orange idiot abroad.   Best guess of the week: I’m not saying a James

I Threw Several Paper Airplanes Last Night
Johnny D

I went out on a limb tonight. Against my gut. When experience told me otherwise I opted to ignore it and ordered the special of the night at the Rose & Thistle: a vegan bowl (add grilled chicken). It was probably the best decision I made all day. So delicious, and healthy! I am hoping this Spring is the beginning of my life as a healthy person.   Lots of regular teams came out tonight. It’s always good to see familiar faces. It was a competitive Pub Quiz, for sure.   In the end it was Toby Keith’s David Lynch that took home first place after a killer

Tonight's Quiz Was Hot!
Ellie

Man O Man! I’m so glad after 8 solid months of rain Seattle has warmed up, but why did it have to happen so fast? We went 60 to 80 real quick! 4 teams joined us tonight to beat the heat! Team Parks and Rec compiled of local Lake Sammamish State Park Rangers informed me that the park was packed over the weekend, but also wanted to provide a PSA that the water is still too cold to swim in! There were many questions we didn’t do too hot on tonight. For starters we are not too smart at FIFA ranked #1 soccer teams. A couple of teams even said that the US of A was a #1 contender in the world, now that’s some country pride! We are also not too hot when it

Wherein We Take a Moment to Reflect on Something Much More Important
Matthew

Monday night, in Manchester, England, at least 19 people, mostly adolescents, lost their lives in a bombing, believed to be of the suicide variety and believed to be an act of terrorism, at the conclusion of an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena in what is one of the worst terrorist acts in the country's history. I'm not going to do much more than acknowledge the awful torrent of to-be-expected ignorant tweets that came out in the immediate aftermath, but I will say that many people are missing, many are injured, and everyone is in a panic...which is, of course, the intended effect of the attack. We can all certainly sympathize and empathize, regardless of what part of the country you're

Alice in Krauss
Drew Wayner

This was the night of tip of the tongue... Everything was just out of reach and that's just how those dastardly fiends at Geeks like it! Alice Cooper, turned into Alice in Chains... close but no godfather of shock rock! Next time I play man in the box, I hope some team guesses... um, uh, Alice in Hannigan? Dan Aykroyd turned into the "fat face liar guy", which turned into... "Glenn Beck?" That guys plays a whole different kind of blues, brother! Christian Bale even turned into Ben Aphlabet... nice attempt, but not even a Joss Whedon rewrite could save that calamatastrophe!! Congrats to the new teams that joined us tonight! We were a hair light

Gosh, Lady!
Who Brought that Girl?

Hey, quiz was swell tonight! It always is! I love Norwin! I love Wyman’s No.5! I love you! Weeeeeee! Has anyone been to Mile High Flea Market? I went yesterday. Oh, the people watching is so good. Also, I bought a sweet hat for $8. It's straw. It's kind of ugly, too. So, I love it. I also bought some salsa from a sweet lady who reminded me of my mom. I could not say no to her. Nope. It's pretty good salsa. Her eyes lit up when I asked for the hottest one. I'm crazy, you guys. I also think "you guys" has been used way too much over the past few years, so I typically stay away from it. But it was perfect for this instant. You guys! I have a bit of a rant. Can we talk about

Colonel is the Worst Word EVER!
Weazel

Seriously, guys, who came up with this word?!  It’s spelled colonel, so it should be pronounced "colon-el", but nope!  It's pronounced kernel.  WHAT THE FRAK?!?!  How does that even make any sense!?  I shake my fist at you, ridiculous enlish language!! Alright, enough of that nonsense!  Rounds tonight covered alphabets, children singing (eww!), soccer teams that don’t suck, Powers Boothe (I know you know who Powers Boothe is.  Here is his IMDb page, with plenty of pictures.  You’re welcome!), celebrities cheering on various sportsball teams, the Great War, famous

I Love Gwyneth Paltrow
John

A rainy Monday morning gave way to a sleepy, cloudy Monday evening up at Dylan Murphys last night. 8 teams took part in the quiz, which made for a lovely and intimate night at the pub.  A nice and seemingly easy first round led to a wash of teams tied for first with perfect scores after round one. This was by far our highest scoring round of the night with an average score of 7.625 points. Round 2 celebrated the underpaid chorus of kids singing in our favorite pop tunes. I sort of expected a lot of high scores in this round, but I was met with a mixed bag. Only half of you jokered this round, and Non-Chalant took a nice

I miss Chris Cornell
Annebeast, but you can call me Daddy.

That's right i miss Chris Cornell, so we had a musical tribute night.  It was fucking magical.  You know what was real weird?  A Bachelorette viewing party.  I'm not really into TV in general, but reality TV that makes a successful woman feel like she needs a man to validate her existence?!  Not my bag at all.  I guess I'm just too feminist for that.  Sometimes i just think i hate men, but i love dick so it is a conudrum.    I live a complex life.  Mystery and magic surround me at all times.  Big ups to the team that danced with me while i sang "Feeling Pussy!  Feeling Cunt!"  You guys won my heart and

CRYSTAL SKUUUUUULLLLS!
Ben

During our second audio round tonight, we played these clips of various celebrities talking about their side businesses – Dan Aykroyd was rambling on about some “crystal skulls” that have been scattered across the globe, it was totally interesting! I got home and looked it up and it turns out he’s hawking some sort of vodka that comes in a skull-shaped glass bottle. LAME! I was so looking forward to his business being some sort of crazy occult side gig. Like, man! He should sell REAL CRYSTAL SKULLS! Like, spritiual divining rods or some garbage like that! I want glass skulls that locate ghosts! That would be the best thing ever. I’d asked ghosts why they’re

Manchester United
Felipe Martinez

I had this whole thing typed out about how this week was gonna be uneventful. The Russia collusion investigation was going undercover, Trump was in the mid-east, and work was slow. But nope. Reality had other plans. My heart goes out to those in Manchester who have to deal with the attack this evening. The world is so full of anger and hate sometimes it makes me sick. But what can we do to stop it other than try to spread kindness and mercy. I can only hope that one day we’ll stop this fighting, this senseless death. Anyways, on to quiz. Winning the “too soon” award for the evening was I Heard Arianna Grande Totally Bombed. I feel bad laughing. They

The Answer Was Not My Mom!
Amoslee

Tonight was another wonderful and exciting night at Geeks Who Drink. In the first half of the night we learned all about words you can make from ALPHABET, the difference between Paul McCartney and other Beatles, and more about FIFA than I ever wanted to know! Five teams graced us with their presence with names oddly circulating around backdoors and shockingly some band humor. After we recapped Rounds 1-5 it was TEAM BUTT STUFF and QUIZ ON MY FACE AND TELL ME YOU LOVE ME who were trailing tightly behind B#S, which stood for "B Sharps" and not "B Pounds" like I originally assumed. WINE-R joined us late in the game but quickly began to gain points when we went through an entire
