What a sweet night! I'm still feeling it in my veins, although that is probably the Happy Camper in me. Yesterday evening bore witness to a Quiz for a Cause, benefitting Carrie Tingley Hospital, and was largely orchestrated by our very own Quizmistress Cupcake. By harnessing the power of our local kickball league, we packed our tiny Tuesday bar with some very good quiz, and raised some money for the kids, too. It was very nice-uh!
It's always a fine thing when one of the owners of your quiz bar starts warning people that "we're probably going to be at capacity tonight," which I believe we totally were (or at least damn close.) It was a veritable festival of quizzers both seasoned and green, all kicking in $5 per player for a chance at the cash pot, and all towards the goodness that is charity. It was a close match throughout (for reals,) but in the end - the winning went to one of the longest-quizzing teams in town (they of very awesome TMBG references.)
With so much goodness in their heart, the aforementioned squad kicked in their portion of the cash pot straight back to the charity. How cool is that? You guys - so cool. It is this very selflessness that Quiz for a Cause is all about, and I applaud the winners for their generosity and continued quiz dominance. Bravo, squady-squad. You're freaking awesome!
Big cheers to Cupcake for putting all this together, and for co-hosting like a ninja both on the mic and off it. Thanks again to the Blackbird for continuing to host us on Tuesday nights, and also to our local WAKA kickball league for bringing the thunder and showing everyone what the true spirit of charity is all about. The Cause is a Cure, kids - now let's go play some damn kickball this summer!

Because like, we are excitement.
Tonight was bad-ass-like! Despite the shit-tastic (dude, it's hypen-city up in here) weather going on, we packed our bold little bar like so many times before for our Tuesday's Finest. Joined by now less than 3 Quizmasters (The Viking, Boba Fatt, Dear/ Sweet Pio) and one hopeful (The Very Awesome Ms. Sarah Kennedy) - our rockers were veritably off their rocks. Rockers have that, yeah? I think they probably do.
It was an unruly race of rounds both curious and strife - and the volume was seemingly pitched towards pure quiz dominance. For reals, there was a single-point differential at the top of the spreadsheet for the duration of the night between 1st, 2nd and 3rd - a quotient I like to think resembles Hodor. Much like their namesake, team Hodor kept their answer sheet steady for the playsance of the evening, at which point I felt compelled to throw them a bone (of thrones) in Round 8, for a question all their own.
I hate ties, and probably should've endeavored for a legitimate sudden death for 2nd, 3rd and beyond. It was up to Boba and Pio (who were still overruled, because NILBOG is GOBLIN spelled backwards,) who judged your curious and rather accurate depictions of me for the tiebreaker. Sadness ensued, and one day my blues will cover the earth.
Next week! It's a Quiz For a Cause for Carrie Tingley Hospital, and you must pitch $5 per player to be eligible for awesomeness. The cash pot will go 50-50 towards the charity and the 1st place squad. Come on raise some dough for a lovely organization, and take some home for your bad selves, too. Quizmistress Cupcake will be the house as well, so come check it, next week, chez Blackbird!

Yup, so now that cat's out of the bag.
Tonight was wicked! We packed the place once again, finals be forsooth. It was a daunting challenge for some, with many more rising up like so many fists in the sky. What with all these riots and marches and things, it's almost like the tides are pulling slowly away from our nation's hand-in-glove promintory. So long as our quiz is the stuff of fable, and the marches of Central don't bust our windows in, I'm cool with it.
My Sunday regulars The Popes of Chile Town had the high score on our War Against Women round, which must've been pretty sweet for a team comprised of dudes. So hey ladies, The Popes have your ticket, right here. Also, I totally flubbed Morgan Freeman for James Earl Jones, an embarrassment that can only be matched by my affinity Beyonce, which doesn't exist. Take that, telephone! (I also hate talking on the telephone.)
Don't neglect, in 2 weeks time (that's May 15th!) we'll be throwing down with a special Quiz For A Cause benefitting Carrie Tingley Hospital. It'll be a $5 buy-in per player, just like a themed quiz - and 1/2 the cash pot will go towards the #1 team, with the other half championing our chosen charity. Come be a part of it, with special co-Quizmaster Cupcake joining me on the mic, too!
Check you next week, where it'll be quizness as usual, for our Tuesday's Finest! Sexy, scary clown ladies will be unwavering in my affections. Just throwing it out there.
