I had a thought earlier today - I was thinking that if there was anyone in the world with the ability to become a true-to-life super-villain, it would be billionaire Elon Musk, the guy behind Telsa Motors and many other super-projects. All he would have to do is have a really bad day, and *snap*, we've got an insanely smart, well funded super-villain on our hands. There was a question about Mr. Musk on tonight's quiz, and it made me ponder my earlier thoughts. I'm scared for the world.

Speaking of tonight's quiz, we had a great time at the ol' Blackbird Buvette! 16 teams, many of them brand spankin' new to the world of Geeks Who Drink, came out to battle for the fabulous prizes (beer money). We deftly navigated the realm of DUH in our first round, and followed by an audio round with your daily reccomended dosage of vitamin C.

I have to say that I am astounded by the amount of teams that couldn't recognize Cthulhu on sight in our visual round - I mean, what are you guys going to do when the Old Gods reemerge  from the depths to reclaim the earth? Geez. Although, one team did write in that Prince Namor was Mystique, which I suppose could *technically* be true, if you think about it. I  almost gave them the point, but then I realized that was dumb.

We rocked the rest of the quiz, with a surprise upset at the end as almost all of the teams that had held the top three spots were dethroned by rebellious upstarts. Good job, guys! Vagina Dentata grabbed third place this evening, with To The Moon, Buzz coming in second! The Cuban Tree Frogs nabbed first, by a whopping 2 points!

Until Next Time Quizzers, let's hope Elon Musk doesn't build a death ray.

Man, it's HOT in Albuquerque. I'm not talking about how awesome tonight's quizzers were, either. I'm talking straight up temperature. During the day, the temperature skyrockets over 100 degrees, and it's been raining off and on as well, which is making it humid outside to boot, which is something We're just not used to in New Mexico. It's hot as balls,  but you guys still managed to work up the energy to come to Blackbird for night of quizzy goodness, which is badass.

You are ALL badasses.

Tonight's quiz was great - it started with Random Knowledge, which threw a lot of people off, and created a lot of  confused looks. You guys quickly got the hang of it, though, as most of the questions and answers had something to do with some measure of randomness. We rocked out the audio round, which covered water and stuff, and then you guys named (kind of) the systems created by Nintendo and Sega in the 80's and 90's (though there were a good number of XBOX and WII and GAMECUBES in there - good try). We tackled a Recently in Stuff round, and round on noses. All in all, tonight's quiz was a good one!

We ended up with two ties - Give Vigil a Chance and The Feral Ducklings tied for third, and Chakan: The Forever Man and The Shitty Beatles ("are they any good?" "no, they suck") tied for first. We exhausted a good portion of our tie-breaker questions in what could only be described as an epic stand-off between all four teams. Eventually, the dust settled, and the top three teams were The Feral Ducklings in third, The Shitty Beatles in second, and Chakan: The Forever Man taking first.

Until next time, dear quizzers, I hope it drops like 40 degrees.

Who needs to Kent to mispronounce like every little thing on a quiz? Not me! Sarah argues that the old adage of "Kenting something up" is giving small hints to make a question easier. I disagree - I think that Kenting something up is mispronouncing a word so terribly, so horribly, that it makes everyone who KNOWS the pronounciation of the word audibly groan. That being the case, I Kent'd up a lot of shit during tonight's quiz. It all ended up working in the end, though, because you guys did a fantastic job. The quiz tonight was one of the most cutthroat ventures I have ever seen, with every team staying within a 12 point spread of each other, and all vying for those top three spots. It was a challenging one, too, one of the more challenging quizzes I have had the giddy, masochistic pleasure of administering.

We started with a round where all of the answers contained the words ARM or LEG. It was a doozy, considering it was the first round. In hindsight, it may have set the tone for the rest of tonight's quiz. The audio round was mashups, and every team did a smashing job naming the artists. We did a 50/50 on Basic stuff, followed by a round on spam and science! Round 5 was the round in which I Kent'd many a word.

Our second audio round was on movies with terrible dialogue. I was delighted and relieved when no one in the venue, not a single team, got Battlefield Earth. So proud! However, that pride was more or less sullied with the fact that no one got Twin Peaks: Fire Walked With Me, either. SADNESS.

At any rate, tonight kicked ass. Most of the team names had to do with that world sportsball thing that is happening, and I didn't get ANY of the jokes. Apparently there is a thing with Germany doing something - I hope whatever they are doing doesn't start another world war. Winner Winner Brazil for Dinner came in third place this evening, with Ich Bin Ein Goal Scorer in second. Auf Weidersehen Brazil came in first place, all within one point of each other. WHEW!

Until next time, Dear Quizzers, I hope something non-sports related happens in the world.
