Thanks to everyone who made it out this week for a slightly truncated edition of Geeks Who Drink. Once hockey season is over, we'll be back to our full glory, but I'm afraid I just don't get paid enough to interrupt a bunch of rowdy Bruins fans during a tense playoff game.
The rounds we did get too were great though. More top-notch questions, brought to you by the twisted geniuses of Geeks Who Drink. Here's what he had:
Round 1: A deceptively easy round of "Duh!" where the answers were so obvious, you trip over them trying to figure it out. Sadly, a few people overthought it and missed the connections between things like Stratford and Avon, or eggs and ovaries. That's how we get ya!
Round 2: An audio round on songs about shakin' it. Also an excellent reminder that Bill Haley and his Comets were filthier than just about any other muscial act you may care to mention.
Round 5: A super-sweet custom visual round with some great visual puns based on some great songs. If a literal "Sex Machine" doesn't stick in your mind, I don't know what will.
Round 8: The dreaded/beloved RANDOM KNOWLEDGE!!! Testing your general acumen to the limit, it's a good way to end the night.
Congratulations tonight to You're Going To Get Hop Ons. A win is a win, no matter the circumstances.
Also, a reminder my dearest dorks. Get ready for Geeks Who Drink's special Game of Thrones quiz, coming to Houston on June 8th. Prepare yourself. Winter Is Coming.

Thanks to everyone who stuck around for the quiz tonight, despite a slight hockey-related day. Hey man, those Montreal fans are intense, whattayagonnado?
Also, a special thank you to fellow Houston QM Jared, who used the special quiz-sense all quizmaster have to know that his presence was needed and turned up to help me score your answer sheets.
With three 16 point rounds this week, score help was much needed. Yes, you lucky people had three 16 pointers to boost your final tally this week. In addition to the usual Music and Random Knowledge, I threw in a 16-point Sooner or Later round about food groups. Kudos to those who reaped the benefits of answering early.
I really liked this week's musical round, because I'm a sucker for the Sex Pistols, Depeche Mode and Ministry. Nothing more to add there, just that I'm very disappointed that none of you knew Ministry's Jesus Built My Hotrod, possibly the best blasphemous car-related metal song of the 90s. (Rob Zombie's Dragula is second)
With all those high-scoring rounds, it got very close. Hot Banger In The Mouth pulled just ahead of That's Not Funfetti Lindsay! to nab second place with 79 points. However, Dracarys held on to a game-long lead to win with 81 points.
I shall point out that we had two Game of Thrones team names this week: Dracarys and I Would Totally Do The Dragon Chick From Game of Thrones
Funny you should mention this, because Geeks Who Drink will be holding its own Game of Thrones quiz!! http://www.geekswhodrink.com/198/
It's a great theme quiz with cash prizes, held at Houston's own Lucky Strike on Sat. June 8th. You don't have to know High Valyrian to win, but it helps.

The history of the world is one of conflict. Two opposing groups pitted against each other is a common story. Cats vs Dogs, Neanderthals vs Cro Magnons, Montagues vs Capulets, Vikings vs Saxons, Punks vs Teds, Welshman vs Astronomers, Singer-Songwriters vs Archdukes. The list goes on.
Of course, we all know the most enduring of these rivalries is that of Jocks vs Nerds. From early days, the split is clear. Jocks head to the playing field to toss each other pigskins and frisbees, while nerds huddle in their darkened basements, reading comic books by candlelight. While nerds are discovering waves and particles, jocks are engaging in spirited games of hoop and stick. Jocks eat heartily at Arbys, while nerds break their fast at CiCi's Pizza. You know the old stereotypes.
The jock/nerd division continues through life. Even in the world of business, CEOs can be divided into jock-types, who insist all financial decisions be mapped out according to their coaches playbook, and nerd-types, who pump their company R&D funds into developing more exciting Spider-Man adventures.
This week, Geeks Who Drink celebrated the great societal divide with questions drawn from the world of jocks (informally known as Jockopolis) and the world of nerds (commonly called Nerdonia).
On the Jock Side:
- A visual round on sporting teams that have moved to new cities
- Questions in Round 4 on winners of baseball and golf
- A Round 6 with uber-jocks Tony Gwynn, Shannon Sharpe, Johnny Unitas and Guillame Latendresse
On the Nerd Side:
- an entire audio round based on a book about Hobbits
- A Round 3 dedicated to Magic The Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons
- Miscellaneous questions on Star Wars battles, Azimov's Laws of Robotics and Roman numerals
So who came out victorious in this collision of the quarterback blitz from Jockdom and the laser beam from Nerdishness? Why, it's the good people of Parks & Procreation with 80 points! This team got full points in the D&D/Magic round and the Sport franchise round, proving the best way to solve the Jock vs Nerd issue is to be equally both.
