Who the hell moved my vagina?

Quiz Schedule
Tuesday nights at Beau Jo's- Colorado Blvd.
Stefani (Who the hell moved my vagina?)

I like going places and doing stuff. I read a lot- often the same books over and over. Top 5 movies- not in any particular order: The Last Unicorn, Clue, Ghostbusters, Labyrinth, and Babe: The Gallant Pig. I do not oh and ah over babies- I, in fact, dislike children very much.  I work at an Elementary school. I was the Prom Queen in high school.  My graduating class had less then 20 seniors, but it still counts bitches. It still counts.

I had no choice but to celebrate the momentous win that took place at last week’s quiz, and was unable to share with you my “Will Shatner Experience”.  I feel that Shatner would prefer that it is referred to as an “experience” because that guy takes himself pretty seriously.

Denver Comicon was quite the occurrence for this first timer and with my limited comic book knowledge I was most intrigued by the sci-fi stars in attendance, including Wil Wheaton, George Takei, Peter Mayhew etc.

I used some super powered mind control (NOTHING like the Vulcan mind meld)and managed to get into a very exclusive William Shatner talk, one basically allowing the 40 or so people in the audience to ask questions and delve into the magic that he believes surrounds his being.   Is it horrible that I wanted to leave after 10 minutes and wished I hadn’t sat so close?  I honestly believed that he probably just thought his various activities- the acting, the music, the Broadway shows were just a lucky break, kind of a joke to be so successful for no real reason. I am not saying I don’t like Star Trek- it was and is an awesome franchise; I liked the old show, the New Generation, the movies with the ear wig and killer whales… but truly?  He is a source of spoofs and laughs and invented a really. weird. way . of speaking. his lines.

I do really love his music.  Common People, You’re Gonna Die, his cover of Space Oddity.  HE thinks it is life altering.  When discussing his new cover art for the next album he said: I have a painting in my mind of what the cover art should be. I see myself on a beach, surrounded by mirrors.  I see myself reflected into a mirror that is reflecting a mirror that is reflecting hundreds of pictures of rainbows.  I am looking into the infinite.  I AM the infinite.

Seems pretty modest to me.  When he wasn’t talking about how he was more than just a bunch of characters- that he would not, in fact, be remembered for one specific role but instead his role in inspiring little Pete in the audience (who was about 3) to one day find a way to get rid of the carbon monoxide in the air and clean up the earth (this was going to happen because little Pete’s dad was a fan and was going to pass his love down through the generations and maybe there are secret messages in Star Trek that I am not aware of.  Or Boston Legal.  Or maybe the Priceline Negotiator commercials).

The moral of the story?  Always have an escape route handy when you are about to sit for an hour listening to an 82 year old guy who gets most of his current jollies from breeding Dobermans.

Hopefully my super powered mind control has also distracted you from thinking about the struggles of quizzing last night.  It’s hard to know where 10,000 Maniacs ends and Natalie Merchant begins. Who really bothers with which Williams’ sister is playing better tennis at any given time?  I too would have assumed any Tyler Perry movie released would reference Madea. And of course, the round we do not speak of.   Congrats to the winners, better luck next time to the losers.

You can picture that it went down something like this.  A team of down on their luck quizzers- a motley crew of all girls, known for selling girl scout cookies and not being able to do much else- plays quiz EVERY WEEK and loses.  There are moments of ridiculousness that make you laugh. And moments of poignancy that touch your soul.  At some point, some players think of giving up.  What’s the point they yell- what does it all mean?  Flip scene and one of their members- the leader, the “heart” of the team gives an inspiring speech.  There is also a “sign” – a rainstorm, a double rainbow.  You can feel the anticipation that THIS will finally be their moment.  And even then, it is a struggle, it doesn’t come easy.  But, VICTORY is finally had!  SlowMo hugging, and a trophy is lifted into the air!  Freeze the frame!

Congrats to Double Rainbow- what does it mean? Tonight was your night, and I cannot tell you how gladdened my heart was to hand over a Beau Jos gift card to your team.

The ultimate show of commitment- A FACEBOOK PAGE

I have hesitated far too long.  Really, I was just scared.  It’s a big commitment!  I mean, it isn’t like I thought we wouldn’t last; I had faith in our ability to stick together, weather any storm.   But, you know how it goes, as soon as you get a name tattooed over your heart, the relationship ends and you are at the tattoo parlor looking at Taz or Tweety bird flash, wondering and hoping that nothing shows through.

I came to realize though, that the time had come.  And with that, I introduce – our very own Facebook Page! https://www.facebook.com/GeeksWhoDrinkPubQuizAtBeauJosDenver

And have you DEALT with Facebook?  It is nearly impossible to get rid of a page once it is created.  Let’s say I had created a “Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz at Beau Jos- Denver” page of faces months ago, when the relationship was new and fresh.  You may have been scared off by my need to push the bond too quickly.  I had to give you the chance to realize you wanted this for the long haul.  And, that we would want to be in communication more than once a week.  I feel confident now that, after 6 months of weekly interaction, we can take the next step- and I can blast your newsfeed once in a while with important thoughts and feelings. I promise, I don’t vaguebook.

Now, speaking of those important thoughts and feelings- I have this blog I have to generate every week.  And, while I like to ramble about whatever – it is time to use this blog for good, and pass on some very important information.

RUMBLE IN THE PUB

First, I FEEL that it is very important for you to take part in the upcoming RUMBLE IN THE PUB. This is that moment to experience an elevated competition, without the expense.  A precursor to GEEK BOWL if you will.  Challenging top placing teams on a regional level, for a chance to win cash and bragging rights.

NEXT THEMED QUIZ

Next, I would THINK that no one would pass up the opportunity to play a WHOLE QUIZ on GAME OF THRONES! PROTIP: Studying up on which characters are actually still ALIVE at this point may be helpful. Your favorite quizmistress will be there to cheer you on.  It is taking place locally on June 8th, 2pm, The Rackhouse.  Get there early to claim a table- space is very limited.

See you on the big kid side of Beau Jos, again, next week!

It finally happened. Me and the quizzers are moving to the big kid side of Beau Jos. Cue the Jeffersons theme song! There are just that many of us. First, an entire restaurant, next step- the world!
The move is both exciting and nerve wracking. Sure, we started quiz on Tuesday night with standing room only, but what if it is a fluke? What if it is only me and some "regulars" next week? I have perfectionism anxiety as it is (which I know you all can see each Tuesday when I provide the quiz. Right? It's perfect? Wouldn’t change a thing? We can all forget about my butchery of Hippocrates, I know I did after berating myself while standing in the corner for several hours after quiz). We must fulfill the expectations that are brought on by being moved to bigger digs.
You know, though, it wouldn't be bad, because there are a lot of you regulars. And this week I highlight (and lowlight) YOU.
TEAM USA PRESENTED BY HENDRIX HOCKEY
Highlights: brought their own quote bubbles. Quack (a lot) when they win. Lows: the spilling of all the beers. The night they played quiz at someone else's venue. Best wrong response of the evening: Shomance or Joan Collins.

SPRINGFIELD ISOTOPES (formerly THE CHUCKWAGON)
Highlights: Have been here since the beginning. Some members attended Geek Bowl.  May have witnessed me sing a Danzig song, at karaoke, at Geek Bowl. Lows: Well, they didn’t win Geek Bowl. Give me shit about my need to take their picture weekly (my bathroom wall is LARGE people, it is going to take a lot more photos to get it wallpapered properly) Best wrong response of the evening: Broseph.
OBGYN KENOBI
Highlights: won a team name competition on the book of faces. Would never circle a joker if they have more than 6 players.  Lows: they think they can move and not attend my quiz. Best wrong response of the evening: Confusing Biz Markie for Master P or possibly thinking Hawaii 5-0 would be that popular.

THE OUTSIDERS
Highlights:  It isn’t whether you win or lose, you just keep playing the quiz.  They sell Girl Scout cookies. Lows: typically “outside” of the winners circle by many, many places. Best wrong response of the evening: Wilson Phillips having a lot of dead members or NKOTB singing Unbelievable.

Special mentions to I came on Eileen and Les Quizerables because I know you are members of the geek tribe and am always glad to see you at my quiz, or those around the town. But mostly at mine.  Because I am selfish.  And, I don’t really care about those other quizzes.  So, just come to mine, ok?
