I'm not your stereotypical geek, unless by geek you mean freaks out about BBC programing. I love Doctor Who, Sherlock and British panel shows. I also get geeky about good beer, college basketball and live music, not to mention pub quiz.

Helloooo all! I know I’m not the type to usually give instructions/commands in my blog, but I tonight I am. I know it is difficult to always feel where the writer of a story/blog/comment is coming from, so I am here to guide you. Tonight, please read this blog in a Scottish accent. Now, I’m not saying it has to be the heaviest brogue you’ve ever heard, more like David Tennant natural accent. If you don’t know who David Tennant is, do some homework, we’re not called Geeks Who Drink for no reason. And, don’t refer to the accent he had in Doctor Who, he put on a British accent, I’m talking about his normal accent.

Anyway, think of tonight’s blog as written in a Scottish accent, cause that’s how it sounds in my head. I’m not going to write it phonetically as Scottish, cause I know you kids are smart enough to sound it out. Anyway, on to the quiz!

Tonight’s quiz was interesting because there were an amazing number of small children at the quiz. Now some of you newer folk might not think that is weird, but those of you who’ve been around know that we at GWD sometimes throw around a curse word or two. Well, not tonight!  Round 3 was literally a round were the answer was Fuck or Shit but, in deference to the youngest of our audience we referred to it as the F-word or the S-word and Fudge and Sugar. We might have gotten away with using the actual words, as all of the younger audience members seemed to be pre-lingual, but I didn’t want to be responsible for someone’s first word being Fuck or Shit.

Eventually the kiddies left and the quiz went on. It all came down to the final round, as Big Booty Bitches stormed to the lead behind a stellar final round and the intelligent use of their joker. Rock ‘N Roll Holes and It’s Poop Again?! (with the use of the interrobang, which I had to inform them of the proper name) tied for second. That meant my favorite thing, the second place tie breaker! We’ve used many different second place tie-breakers before, dance off, Rochambeau, closest to the correct answer, etc. My favorite, however, is the alcohol chug off. So I bought two of the hardest beers to chug, stouts, and had a member from each team chug them. In the end, age triumphed youth and It’s Poop Again?! walked away with second place. Rock ‘N Roll Holes took third and all was well with the world.

See you next Thursday.

I recently noticed that my Thursday quiz at Set’em Up Jacks always went way faster than my Tuesday quiz, probably cause I don’t drink as much on Thursdays, last night I chose to rectify that oversight. It worked!

The quiz didn’t go as fast, but mainly because I had to give one quizzers a lot of crap about his mom. Why would I do that? Because he told me that a song I was playing sucked more than his mom, and she sucks a lot. What would you have done in my situation? That’s right, the exact same thing. So I’m going to dedicate this blog to Josh’s mom.

Other than calling out Josh and his mom all night, we had a quiz.

The quiz featured some old Mensa problems and no one actually complained, a rare occurrence for math at the quiz.

Some members of Rock ‘N Roll Holes made shirts, which is awesome, look to the left for a picture.

In the end, the Rock ‘N Roll Holes took home first place again.

The quiz is FINALLY back in Lawrence! After a week of crazy weather and two huge snowstorms, mother nature has calmed down enough to get the roads cleared of and let us get back to quizzing.

We started the night out with a round on stuff you don’t want to happen to your balls, that is if you have balls. All the answers were things that would probably hurt the little fellas. I was a little disappointed not to get to talk about testicular torsion, however.

The audio round was the incredible shrinking quiz, where the objects in the titles of the songs got smaller with each song. We went from Across the Universe to Neutron Dance.

Skipping ahead to round 4, some of my quizzers took offense when I suggested that no one has ever ordered the cinnamon twists of the Taco Bell menu. They said they were delicious, to which I countered that they were probably drunk when they ordered them, because that is the only time that anything from Taco Bell sounds good. They admitted they were, but still insisted that they were good.

In round five, we put a bunch of suggested some possible candidates for the new pope and put them in pope regalia, somehow I don’t think the Catholic church is going to nominate Andrew Dice Clay, Dr. Dre or Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

Round six was all about Mexican food and history, cause it’s never too early to bone up for Cinco de Mayo.

In round seven, we replaced the speaking parts of some of the actors in famous movies with Short Round from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Round eight was the usual random knowledge, but the most exciting part was that we had a three way tie for second place, so I was really hoping for that to continue. After it was all said and done, the Rock ‘N Roll Holes finished way ahead in first place and What Happens in the Black Hole and Today Benedict is Headed to the Old Pope’s Home finished tied, which means a second place tiebreaker and those are my favorite. No one was in the mood to dance and Clint, the manager at Set’em Up Jack’s, thought a car bomb chugging was in order and that is what we did. I must say, it was a crowd favorite. In the end, Justin from team Benedict slammed his pint down first and took home second.
