I grew up in Burlington, VT, and moved here on a whim in 2003.  Became the quiz presenter at White Horse Tavern in 2005, where I worked for 7 years for another quiz company. Then Geeks Who Drink came a-callin'.  I first rejected their overtures, but joined the family when they offered to pay me in hair gel.

When I'm not hosting your quiz or hitting on you, I enjoy horse racing, kayaking, baseball, and football.  I once won $33,000 on a $48 horse ticket.  I was on "Judge Mathis" in 2004, and also appeared locally on the Red Sox trivia game show "The Batters' Box" in 2009.  Yet, I still get recognized for appearing for ten seconds on a casting special for "Beauty and the Geek" in 2005.  Seriously, it's aired on television maybe twice, and people recognize it.  It's stupendous.

One of the first CD's in my home as a boy was the Eurythmics' greatest hits compilation.  My mother loves to tell the story of me dancing around in the womb to "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" when she was pregnant with me in 1983.  My appreciation of Annie Lennox is clearly a lifelong love.

While my favorite was always "Missionary Man" (featuring a harmonica solo that would make John Popper cream his giant pants), another track on the album was their collaboration with Aretha Franklin, "Sisters Are Doing it For Themselves," a top 20 hit in 1985.  This also served as the theme for tonight's Round 5 visual handout, which required players to name TV shows based on pictured sister characters.  No, Tia and Tamara Mowry were not depicted here.  They must be busy doing...er...um...

We kicked off tonight's game with a fun gambit, entitled "Hold Onto Your Sluts!," in which we referenced eight popular movie quotes, then asked a question about a word that sounds similar to the last word in the quote.  "Go ahead, make my day." Maybe I'll do so by roasting you while standing among what gathering of fellow comedians?*

Round 2 music was on the theme Soundtrack for a Walkabout.  My man Darin from Waco presented for us eight songs by Australian artists.  Nicola the waitress from Australia wanted another Australian round, and Darin obliged. Unfortunately, the players did not oblige, as only four teams got at least half the artists and titles.

I should put out a bounty on Evil Giraffes.  They showed their brawn again tonight in a low-scoring affair, still stretching out a seven-point margin over the All-Star bunch of Slippery Kosher Pickle, who were clear of third by another 12 points.  Stay dry...we'll do the dirty again Wednesday at 8!

Your genial quizmaster has always found humor in pickup lines.  My three favorites are as follows:

-The word of the day is "legs."  Let's go back to my place and spread the word.

-Let's play war.  I'll lay down, and you blow the hell out of me.

-Can I buy you a drink, or should I just give you the money?

One I always found less amusing was "do you have any fries to go with that shake?"  Maybe it's because I grew up in lilywhite Burlington, Vermont, and thus, did not have many girls in my school with a posterior necessary to make the joke relevant.

However, the line did inspire tonight's Round 2, eventually entitled "Detox Sucks." DJ Bing put this music round together, featuring eight songs with "shake" in the title.  I'm revoking Bostonhood from anybody who couldn't identify "Shake it Up" by the Cars.  In fact, people lacked so much confidence in naming titles and artists, nobody jokered Round 2, and there were 24 submissions, a White Horse Tavern first.  Perhaps the unusual 16-point Round 7 inspired people not to joker here as well.

My contribution to the game was our multiple choice Round 3, Seth MacFarlane or Todd McFarlane?  The two animators have some similarities of sorts - Seth graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design, while Todd served as Art Director for Curt Schilling's ill-fated 38 Studios.  Guessing "Seth" for all eight questions (as one team did) would have netted you five points.

In fact, it was five points on Round 3, along with 75 more, that helped Hard Pianist to victory in tonight's game.  The squad of six, with Boston University softball players among them, won by three over Banana Co, who took second after two recent Thursday wins.  Go Bruins!  Enjoy Game 2 on Sunday afternoon, and we'll talk Sunday night at 8 after Orb (presumably) wins the Preakness.

I had heard of Reddit in passing, but up until a couple of months ago, I had never bothered to visit the site.  I did when fellow Boston QM, Audionaut, sushi aficionado, funnyman, and homeboy John Tullar told me that not only was there a specific Boston Reddit, but also that people were talking about Boston pub quizzes on it.  Yes, my name was mentioned.  I was widely praised, but one guy said that I don't know "how to shake hands properly."  Well, good thing I didn't play against you in Little League, pal.

Our Multiple Choice Round 3 tonight was on the theme "Real Subreddit, Or Something We Made Up?"  The six that were real provoked my curiousity to explore the site further.  The two that weren't real were downright plausible.  Tip of the cap to our crack writing staff for coming up with this one.  At least three teams guessed "real" for all eight.  Well played.

Tonight's music identification Round 2 came to us from Tucson's own Caribbean Joe tonight.  He's a man of the night, so his round was about wolves in music, entitled "Howl at the Moon."  More specific themes usually lead to more obscure songs, but Joe came up with a solid octet, and 13 teams were able to notch double digits.  Awoooo!

Chicken Too Tasty took the game last Wednesday, but ended up in a tiebreaker with Mark's bunch Cowboys and Pygmalions this time...and the latter got the best of them.  Will LaLilac got third and won the e-mail prize as well.  We'll do it all again tomorrow at 8!  And to the girl that bought me a PBR during Round 6: Thank you.  You left before I could offer my gratitude in person.
