With a few weeks break it was good to come back refreshed, ready for quiz, albeit our final quiz here at Double Daughters. You guys were awesome and it was so much fun to quiz with you guys week after week. So many memorable moments all of which made quiz here unique.
Like the night we had to split up the ladies of THUNDER CHEEKS! to play solo and the team of two just BARELY beat the team of one. Or the time we the couple all the way from Finland do pretty damn well on quiz. And all the delicious beer as well 'creative' team names. You guys rock.
I have to give a shout out to the ladies of THUNDER CHEEKS! and IN SOVIET RUSSIA, QUIZ ENDS YOU! as a couple of the teams that came every single week and consistently finished in the top two placings. Seriously, thats pretty damned impressive and more so because their scores kept going up week after week. They are ready for the best Geeks has to offer.
Good summary of the night:

Favorite Drawing of the night:

We had a special treat this week at quiz, and entire round about Samuel L Jackson doing what he does best, yelling. But let's take a deeper look at the man that is Samuel L Jackson. Did you know he was planning on being a marine biologist and architect? That's right, Samuel L Jackson wanted to study fish and build shit before he settled on drama. Probably a good choice, yelling at fish would just look odd and as an architect it would get your ass whooped. It worked out for the best though, as he started his acting career he began losing his hair. One day for a role he was being cast for he needed to have a shaved head, after he shaved it for that first role he never went back. He says he's gotten more roles since. Well of course he did, because shaved heads are damned awesome. Who the hell needs hair?
Quiz wasn't just about Samuel L Jackson, we had other sweet quiz goodness. Round 2 was one of the best rounds of the night. Even our team who joined us late was able to come out of nowhere and do alright this round. Now, I always thought stripper names were your middle name and the name of the street you grew up on, or is that your porn name? If I was a stripper I would think something like that would be more 'interesting' than 'Candy.' Great job to BROGI BEAN AND THE JELLYSTONE BABOO for the high score this round.
This week we learned that geology and horse biology are weak not everyone's strong suits. They weren't even directly related to geology, just, the person/object that was the answer has something geology related in their name. Missing those was unacceptable, but missing the horse biology, understandable. That's some shit I'm confident everyone just did their best guesses on. No one scored higher than a four on this round and I think some teams gave up when they added on body parts to their horses. When in doubt, draw cocks on your horse, right?
We finished off the night with a tie for 2nd which was handily settled via chug off. Sam of WONDER TWIN POWERS: EMASCULATE drank more, quicker than her competition.
That's it for 2012 kids. It's been a blasty blast. Don't forget that we don't have quiz the next two weeks and will resume on January 7th. Bring your friends, family, person you met at the laundromat for what will be an awesome blowout of a quiz. That is, assuming we don't all die on the 21st, but, if we all survive make it through the holidays in one piece and remember a few helpful holiday hints:
Survive the Holidays and I'll see you all one more time on Jan 7th!

Let's cover the second part of that headline first. Leo is an OK actor, he's been in some meh films (personally thought 'What's eating Gilbert Grape' was hilarious) but damn, when he cries, he cries like a little girl. That clip last night from Basketball diaries was just pathetic. It sounded like a 5 yr old was playing his role. And what is it about him that he always seems to get the same roles, just like Keanu Reeves? Personally it'd be nice to see him break out and do more roles like from 'Catch Me If You Can.' You know who are better actors than Leo in almost every way? Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem. 'No Country For Old Men,' or as Sam says it should be called, 'There Will Be Blood,' was an amazing movie. And Josh Brolin was fucking awesome in that role, he was such a badass. Javier Bardem was amazing too. Leo could never do a role like that because he's one dimensional as an actor in my opinion. So having a whole round that highlighted how he freaks out in most movies he's in further proves that point.
The other day I was in a heated debate with a co-worker about why the US doesn't use the 'superior' metric system when the rest of the world (for the most part) does. Their argument was it's so much easier since it's in intervals of 10 vs 12 with the English (customary) system. I then felt obligated to inform them of a few mythis about the metric system:
#1 Being a base 10 system it is superior than a base 12 system. The metric system has been adopted world-wide because of the inherent superiority of base10 mathematics in every day use.
Oh really? What time is it? What are the coordinates on your GPS showing, have you ever tried to cut a 1 meter board in 6 pieces? While a base 10 system is easier for calculations on a calculator base 12 is easier for calculations in your head because 12 is divisible by more numbers than 10 is.
#2 – You shouldn’t use the English (Customary) System for technical purposes because the conversion between feet and inches and pound and ounces is much harder than converting between meters and kilometers and liters and milliliters.
When doing technical work you don’t ever need to convert between feet and inches. You really every need to convert between meters and kilometers either. Once you are using scientific notation it doesn’t matter. 10,000 feet is 1x10E6 feet and 10,000 meters is 1x10E6 meters. Neither unit system is easier than the other in scientific notation.
Manufacturing in the US already uses the metric system for international orders as well as other industries and it will probably remain that way. The general populace has no need for it and it would be a massive re-education to switch the US from Customarty to Metric. All that said, the metric system sucks, isn't worth it, and isn't any better.
On to quiz
We had some outsiders from Austin grace Double Daughters with their presence at quiz this week. Shockingly enough, this was their first time playing Geeks even though Austin is one of Geeks Who Drinks strongholds where we are anywhere and everywhere. For their first time they scored pretty well with a 54. First and second place was neck and neck until Round 8. OXFORD COMMA STRIPPERS got their shit together and pulled ahead of 2012 CAN SUCK MY BALLS. Common missed questions were who are the top three oil producing nations, only president to win a nobel peace prize while in office, and magazine publishing dates. The ladies could have come back but alas, maybe next week they'll take first.
Thanks everyone who came out to quiz this week. It was great seeing all of your smiling faces! Don't forget to check out our Facebook page here like it, love it, leave your feedback and tag yourself in pictures! PLUS answer a question I post the day of quiz for a free beer, on my tab! I'll see you guys next week at 830!
