Chase (Colonel Chase)

Retired Colonel, full-time Quizmaster.

The story of Quizmaster Chase is a long and arduous one. One that stands the test of time and also serves as a cautionary beacon to others.

Quizmaster Chase grew up deep in the heart of a pre-Twilight Olympic Peninsula. A land of trees and mountains and water, and apparently also a land of quizmasters. At that age when most children do, Quizmaster Chase left the family homestead and headed towards Seattle with nothing more than a napsack and a dream.

Dazzled by the bright lights, the country kid made his way through University and a professional career before finally achieving the highest rank in the military, that of Colonel. Once a Colonel, Quizmaster Chase was able to live his dream of traveling across the Pacific to Japan on a goodwill mission, as well as serve as a non-official envoy to Europe during a brief tour just prior to the United Kingdom's General Election of 2010. Quizmaster Chase also serves as a senior advisor on beverage matters to several local governemnt entities in the state of Hawai'i.

While residing near Seattle's Lake Union (for a quick seaborne escape if need be) Quizmaster Chase enjoys the fine world of microdistilleries and their wares, the interplay between water and land, and his trustworthy dog Jack.

Oh yes my friends - it's beer week. What does that mean at a brewery? Well they have green cans of the green beer, and koozies!

We sounded the quizzing horn, and started with a horror haiku round, THEN THREE ROUNDS ON BEER! Yes, Lagers and Loggers (and I outed myself as a pageant winner - thank you Forest Festival 2002!) as well as the Brews and Blues, and even songs that involve beer and drinking and such.

In soviet quiz, geek drinks you! That sounds weird. Round five had russian things, then we had a round... that was possible one of the rounds that contained the longest in terms of words and letters contained in the answers known to man.

Love themes rounded out the audio round, and then random knowledge, which included cancer doctors (boo, cancer!)

Next week: less beer, more beer, and patio probability!

Every once in a while we quiz until we have reached our final round, and then there is a tie. In some instances I demand a dance off to settle the score. Other times, the most beautiful girl on the team must compose a poem of how much she adores Quizmaster Chase. And even still, we sometimes just ask another dumb question. Guess which one we did last night?

I don't remember. Just like I didn't remember about round 4. But it was there. We're all still here.

We had rounds with word trickery, where I gave you letters and definitions. Then we had ska covers, because ska is gross and no one should listen to it. Then we had rounds with things that happened in the past, but you had to know which one happened first. For example which happened first: Chase first hosts pub quiz at Redhook OR Chase is voted America's most beloved quizmaster?

Then we had rounds on myth people (note: beware the spunky new hostess - she minored in Classics and majored in Art History), which is not to be confused with the round on fake people from movies. Then a visual round with the people rebus. Betty Crocker as portrayed by Betty White and Chris Crocker.

Finally we closed the audio round with movies about rich girls and poor boys. This caused several teams to want to hear A Whole New World from Aladdin. Also Amanda really wanted to sing it too. We let her do that.

We ended as I mentioned earlier, with a tie for 2nd and 3rd, but we settled with a question on John McCain's total votes in the 2008 election, and the folks stuck in a rut emerged nearly victorious but more victorious than the Red shirt squad.

Next week: probably less Aladdin, but more history, and certainly more ska.

Love,

Quizmaster Chase

Actually, the friendly GWD lawyers would like to point out that just because you can start to do some outdoor activities now, not all are suitable to take out of doors. And if you were out on the deck last night you'd have gotten slightly rained on. But soon though! The quizzing shall breach the back door and we'll have a delightful time outside and inside! Hooray!

As usual we started with rounds where I got to say "aluminium" instead of "aluminum." Blame the episodes of Top Gear I watched last weekend on that. Note: this argument does not work in a court of law, esp. when you get cited for trying to understeer into Chicago. Four of you will know what that means.

Also: last night began the debut of using "Call Me Maybe" during a quiz. With any luck I'll be able to work that in to every week's questioning.

Last night our previous champions, the Candle Lit Masturbatorium fell in the rankings, and several previous champions did compete, including our eventual winner: Suck It Sucky McSuckerson!

We gave away the email prize to Warren and his loud ass old-man firends, and there was even a tie-breaker for 2nd! We ended it with OMG We're ADD losing said tie-breaker, but coming home in 3rd palce with some money, leaving 2nd place all for Pull My String's taking.

Next week: I apologize to a few of the servers (it was crazy, here's my number, they probably won't call me... maybe...)
