Last night the tears flowed openly as myself and a small but hearty contingent of quizzers rang out the final Granite City quiz.  Because of various issues, we ran this quiz OLD SCHOOL!  No fancy sound system, no microphone.  Just my dulcet voice, a laptop and 9 sexy quizzers.  Instead of the typical recap, I'm going to do tributes to my the last 3 teams. 

The Lords of the Pantaloon

My bookend team!  You came for our very first night of the quiz.  Then you showed up tonight.  You came not knowing that you were to bear withness to the end of an epic era.  But bear you did indeed!  Your answers delighted (I would love to have seen Charles Manson in a boxing match).  You quickly established your geek cred with a request for music from Morrowwind.  You infuriated with your wonderful comments regarding Avatar: The Last Airbender.  Thank you so much for joining us on this auspicious occasion, you over affectionate, super geeky, late to the party mother fuckers. 

Honey Badger

Hands down the sweetest team ever to grace the halls of Granite City.  You two were a constant pleasure to quiz for.  I may hassled you a bit last night, but it's just because I feel like we're that damn close.  I'll never forget your first night with us all those months ago. It was a real barn burner where you were able to top off a day of misery with a resounding victory. I was made glad by that.  I wanted that for you!  Thank you guys so much for being a part of the highly disfunctional family that is Granite City Geeks Who Drink. 

Bag of Douches

Ooooooh B o' Ds.   You douchey, douchey bags.  The only ones to fill out the email question of the week. You've been with us through thick and thin.  Always right up front.  Always extremely loud. And always always always extremely entertaining.  On top of it, you were the only team to consistently fill out the email question of the week!  Sometimes I thought that you guys were the only ones who knew how to enjoy a damn pub quiz.  Any time I'd have a team silently sitting and not smiling I would think "Why can't you be Douchier?"  So that is my directive to you as we go into the future.  Be the biggest damn douches you can be. Special shout out to Heather.  Now that all is said and done I can say this.  You were my favorite.

Last night may as well have been entitled "The Night The Drunken Nomads Won Everything".  But first! 

We had a lot of fun listening to various versions of the "Dallas" theme.  Here's a list of some of my favorite sitcom theme songs:

Seriously, take an afternoon and listen to these.  I guarantee you will end up a happier human being than when you started.

Big ups to my new pal, "Edgar Allen Poop".  Hands down my favorite name of the night.  Love it when newbies swing by!  Hopefully we'll see you again!

The eh-holes had an incredibly strong game.  They were able to take an early lead (as they have done so often in the past), but this time they had both Mr. Poop and the Drunken Nomads on their tail.  It was a tight one!

Last night was an absolute first for yours truly as a Quiz Master.  I gave out five Free Drink tickets, every last one of them went to the Drunken Nomads.  So last night, Geeks Who Drink helped them live up to their name.  If they answer the email question next week and get the first perfect round, it'll complete their around the world tour of victories!

And that brought us to the end game.  We neccesitated a tie breaker which was buzzed in with "Mike is a Sexy Beast".  The Drunken Nomads were the first to acknowledge this universal truth and brought it home on the first question.  Well done DN!

But they shouldn't get too cocky! As we've seen recently, the Bag of Douches, one time powerhouses have been having a difficult time reclaiming their former glory.  Are they past their quizzing prime?  I believe it's more a "sleeping giant" situation.  Ya'll best watch out.
