What a magical evening this was. Even though there was a bit of a late start, we had a very strong 6 team showing. Honestly, this group brings a tear to my cynical, bloodshot eye, and NO, that's not because of pot. I have glaucoma. And the munchies. Shut up.

Salad and fried pickles in hand, we started off the night with a round on four letter words (although, sadly, not my favorite ones). We then returned to the deep, deep well that is arrested development with an audio round that kinda, sorta had everyone's names in the answers (even though egg(anne) was not mentioned, she was in my thoughts.)

Relaxing with a quick game of Android or Iphone, we ramped up the volume with Recently in Stuff and I discovered what a learned and internationally aware group I was working with. (I'm totally not kissing ass to keep teams coming back, why do you ask?)

Next, we were lulled into a false sense of security with a round on Christopher Lloyd (Uncle Fester FTW) and then POW! Right in the kisser with Gimme those digits, a round I had to explain about 6 or 7 times just so that I could understand it, much less our players (needless to say, high scores did not abound that round). We talked movie soundtracks before covering the random knowledge round, where we had a first in my (admittedly short) career as a quizmaster, a 3-way tie (giggity) for second place, which was settled with a rousing twist contest. Thus, the winner of the $10 gift card and the title of second place is Mr. Berryman, who, while magnificent, paled in comparison to the steady rise of our victors, Bramlet Abercrombie, who actually came in 10 minutes late and didn't do that great in the first round, but DOMINATED in the following rounds.

Fire Bad. Fried Pickles Good.

Man, why does Colorado always have to be on fire? We just got done with this sh** last year, and now everyone is worried about their stuff all over again, times five or six. We had several teams who were ready and raring to join the quiz, but were called away because they were in the voluntary evac. zone. They totally missed out on some bitchin' fried pickles and salad. Yeah, I eat salad, what of it?!

Regardless, we had three rambunctious teams tonight all fighting for the power and the glory of a $15 gift card AND the title of Quiz winners. We started off by touring the world with some internationally named foods, then covered some should-be-dead karaoke hits (a favorite of which was, of course, Baby got Back by Sir Mix-a-lot). After that, we covered everyone's knowledge of the '90s which involved many, many people(usually Will Smith) beating the ever-loving-Sh** out of stuff, and then we covered sports penalties which involved a joke at Tom Brady's expense, because we absolutely MUST mock him at every single possible turn (seriously, f*** that guy).

Next was the visual round that involved animals and the countries that love them (the condor threw me and everyone else off) with our mystery round, round of Family guy parodies, and our random knowledge round kicking just about everyone's ass (the answer of the evening had to go to Nooner; The question was: Name the three living retired Supreme court justices and the answer they gave was Clint Eastwood, Vin Diesel, and Kurt Russel. SNAKE PLISSKEN FOR CHIEF JUSTICE!!! WOOO!!!)

It was a tough night (especially on the vocal chords, since someone forgot their mic) but in the end, our third placers, Nooner, were edged out by Wild Cats, who just barely lost to Mr. Berryman.

Well, I've finally done it. I have been allowed to join the hallowed, the coveted, the vitally important ranks of the Geeks Who Drink Quiz Masters/Mistresses. I never thought that I would be allowed to run such an important cornerstone of the Colorado Springs community, but they let me do it. Suckers.

We had a great turnout tonight for my very first self run quiz. We started out with pure poetry, and apparently the hurdy-gurdy fans stayed home. Also, there was apparently one team that remembered five alive, who then (I assume) jumped back into their time machine when the quiz was over. We then had our first audio round where we jumped, jived, and generally did what Mac Daddy told us to do (I've found that that's the best way to live my life).

After that was round three, the round on actors and their roles in Disney films, followed by a round on James, Bonds, and That One Tuxedo Model (was I the only one who wondered who the tuxedo model was? Or is that just the most oblivious question I've ever asked? Please don't kill me, James Bond fans, I'm too young and beautiful to die!)

Following round four, we had a bonus question that damn near stumped everyone. Come on, NO ONE knows What's Up, Tigerlily? Charlatans.

Round five informed me that Ween and the Pixies get no love anymore, and my heart was touched by how well everyone understood my constant and annoying repetition of the instructions. You like me! You really like me!

Finally, round eight kicked many, many asses soundly. Also, apparently there are two extremely metal sounding seas in the world.

Our email bonus question winner was Drew B., who won a lovely magnetic bumpersticker, with a joke that was funny about 6 years ago. Enjoy!

It was a photo-finish, but Chive On managed to reign supreme, followed by Sugar Mama meets Bacon Daddy (Oooo, I hope it's brown sugar. Tasty) then it was Vodka Martini(featuring my mentor, Justin, who was passing the torch tonight, as well as my BFF), We're with the band. (BTW, I've rethought what you said. Call me!) and finally, The Slaughterhousers, with miss chatty cathy shouting out the answers. Come on! That was rule number one!
