Sunday Nights at O'Possum's Pub in Murfreesboro, TN
Mike (QM DJ OBGYN)

More drunk than geek. Very geeky still though. Music nerd most of all, random current events and history are back up knowledge. 27 years old.

Last night at O’Possum’s: moms, beers, some dirty jokes, and shitty meat.

R1 was about true things and false things, like falsetto, the remake of “True Grit,” and Madonna’s “Truth or Dare.” High score of 7/8

R2 was songs about the home (specifically the home of whoever was singing). “The Boys of Summer” as on there, “My Hometown” by the Boss, and of course Phil Collins “Take Me Home” with all the air drums and shit. High score of 13/16

R3 was simple, real headline or Onion headline. Crowd favorite: “Surgeon general warns teens – Cinnamon challenge not for pussies.” High score 7/8

R4 was anagrams of authors’ names like “dingle Jars” (JD Salinger) or “Lo, turd rumble” (Robert Ludlum). Two teams got a perfect 8/8.

R5 was an assortment of movie posters in which the two stars lean back to back and look cheeky. Most were so-called chick flicks. High scores of 6/8 were frequent, but none better.

R6 was about shitty celebrity moms (there’s a bunch of them). Some we mentioned were Megan Fox, Kathie Lee Gifford, and at the end of the game someone said “you really don’t like Elizabeth Hasselbeck, do you?”I don’t. High score was a lone 8/8 for The Unknowing.

R7 was mentions of fast food in the movies, so you had your obligatory “Harold and Kumar,” a bit from “Clerks 2,” and crazy Michael Douglas from “Falling Down.” Still though, low scores abound. High score was a 6/8.

Finally, random shit, in which I ask whatever. This week it was about Emmy statuettes, Washington’s eulogy,  Tom Cruise’s real name, Chevrolet SUVs, Leonardo DiCaprio characters, and Don Quixote’s side kick. High score here was a 10/16.

Congrats to my winners Matthew, we need answers who was partially comprised of team US, then a good one for 2nd place team These aren’t balls in my mouth, it’s just swollen who was making light of Abe Lincoln’s accident. Get well soon and don’t start any more play fights.

See everyone next Sunday for more beers and salty material! TWEET AT ME @satirically

More drunk than geek. Very geeky still though. Music nerd most of all, random current events and history are back up knowledge. 27 years old.

Last night at O’Possum’s: light rain showers, some medium drinking, and if you’re from around here and you say you’re Native American I’ve got a round for you to put your money where your mouth is.

Anyway, R1 opened up with working titles of movies, for example, did you know that “Wall-E” was going to be called “Trash Planet?” High score was a 6/8.

R2 was music as always, this week’s theme: Powers of 10. It went 1, 10, 100, 1,000, etc. Except more like 100 Years (Five for Fighting), 1,000 Miles (Vanessa Carlton), 10,000 Maniacs, “If I Had a Million Dollars” (Barenaked Ladies)… it was pretty fucking difficult.

R3 was “So you think you’re of Native American Descent” (happens often here. Maybe a product of “white guilt”) Anyway, it was basically the top 11 tribes. I had a 5 point average, so maybe they’re more native than I thought.

R4 was about 5’s and condiments (Cinco de Mayo)… my favorite “Slaughterhouse 5” came up, as did Tabasco, tartar, and mustard.

R5 was TOM HANKS. Nobody got a perfect score because what the fuck is “Mazes and Monsters?”

R6 was TEQUILA Y CERVEZA. That’s one of my favorite things and also tequila. Questions/answers included El Presidente, Tecate, Sol, Cuervo, etc.

R7 was all movie sequels… matter of fact, they all had the number 2 except Harry Potter. No perfect score here either, that Ghoulies 2 messed them up.

Finally, it’s RANDOM BULLSHIT. We talked about classic Disney, Karl Rove, Falafel, bands with umlauts, Superman, Randy Newman (sure sign of a good time right there), and Chipotle burritos. Then we all collectively diarrhea-ed because that’s what happens at Chipotle.

Anyway, team US really broke the other teams. I think next week I’ll offer a bounty. That is all. See you next week and TWEET AT ME @satirically  !!!!!!!!!!!

Mike (QM DJ OBGYN)

More drunk than geek. Very geeky still though. Music nerd most of all, random current events and history are back up knowledge. 27 years old.

Last night at O’Possum’s: my day of birth, lots of music and movie shit, and my parents were there???

As usual, we started with Round 1, which was about the first line in some songs. As I phrased it last night, this is literally the first shit out of their mouth once the song begins. “There must be some way outta here said the joker to the thief” ----- SEE. FIRST SHIT BOB DYLAN SAYS. Also, Human League sucks. Also also, Warren Zevon and John Mellencamp might be racist.

R2 was audio clips, I learned here that people have already forgotten about Guns N Roses, they think the Everly Brothers are Buddy Holly, and that one Blondie song doesn’t really sound like Blondie. Teams did well with a high score of 14/16

R3 was Character Assassination, AKA actors who die a lot. Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro die a lot. Oh and Ned Stark dies nearly every time he’s in anything.

R4 was based on the Fibonacci sequence so if you like exponential numbers and otherwise unrelated questions this was your jam.

R5 was a visual round of architecture, mainly high rises under construction. EVERYONE GOT A PERFECT SCORE. Suck it, architecture gods.

R6 was a round on advertising, including the “Most Interesting Man in the World” and Michael Phelps bong smokin’ ass. Also we had a question about a Guinness ad from the 1940’s that we had hanging on the back wall of the bar. So, it was more about spelling “toucan.”

R7 was TV shows that overstayed their welcome, which was met with a lot of “OHH NO, I LOVE THAT SHOW,” well too bad, it’s been on too long and it sucks now, ok? Also, 24 doesn’t have a theme song per se. Just some beeps and other noises and shit.

Finally, RANDOM BULLSHIT: this week we talked about French cooking, last year’s NBA championship game, ketchup ice cream, internet companies that own other internet companies, Andy Kaufman, the actor who played Phil Spector, and the top 4 fast service restaurants in the US. IT’S NOT TACO BELL. JUST BECAUSE YOU EAT TACO BELL A LOT DOESN’T MAKE THEM #2. And Pizza Hut, really?

Anyway, we celebrated my birth with my actual parents in attendance, which they’ve never seen me host and I’ve been at this for almost 3 years now. Team Erik, get me another beer inadvertently caused me to order another beer. A newcomer going by AT came in and (with some help of my parents) landed in 2nd place after leading pretty much the whole time, and the unstoppable US scored high in R8 shooting them into 1st.

See you next Sunday, good people of O’Possum’s and don’t forget to TWEET AT ME @satirically
