Ken (Snarky Shark)

Hi Everyone,

This is Ken "Snarky Shark" Lindsay! I'm the current host of the GeeksWhoDrink Pubquiz over at the Blarney Stone, in downtown Seattle!

As for me, I'm pretty much a Seattlite. Sure, I've lived in California, Arizona, Washington, Idaho, but I definitely call this place my home. I dig the grunge scene and like the local legends Pearl Jam and Nirvana. However, I also dig a decent Irish jig (a shout out to Gaelic Storm, who do not visit Seattle enough!) , so the Blarney Stone has been ideal for me.

I got this gig to replace (impossible, I say!) Gentleman Johnny, the previous quizmaster, who happens to be a close friend of mine in real life! who would have thought? Personally, I dig science questions. Why? Well, in real life <le sigh> I'm a graduate student in the department of Biochemistry in the University of Washington. So, mixing pleasures is always fun. (Shaken not stirred, thankyouverymuch.)

I really enjoy the regular players, with their funny quirks, and the hopeful glean in the eyes of the newbies, who think they can win. (How quickly those hopes are shattered...) I'm always down for a pint with a friendly face, so if you ever want to talk, just let me know!

As for the moniker, "Snarky Shark", just wait until you are at the other end of the quiz. Don't know the answer? Oh, I'll know, I can smell the blood in the water...

May 13th, 2013 - The Blarney Stone

Which came first: Junk Food Edition.

A fine round, but <takes a drag off a cigarette>

I think we answered that question...

It was a truly pitiful evening at the Blarney Stone, tonight.

Overall the crowd managed to answer only 60% of the questions.

But let's see how they did.

They did pretty badly on the audio rounds.

Round 2: Songs that Mariah Carey would do.

&

Round 7: Celebrity guest appearances on King of the Hill

I feel their redemption came from the rounds on:

Round 4: A man, a plan, a canal, Panama!

&

Round 5: Visual Round on Child stars that grew up to expose themselves, to the camera...

Interest themes, their knowledge. Will we see more of the dark, word-play-loving side of the crew at the Blarney Stone? Or will we simply be stuck with more sports questions? Will they seriously complain about that?

All that and more, can be discovered next week!

At the Blarney Stone!

May 6th, 2013 - The Blarney Stone
You get some interesting teams coming into pubQuiz from time to time. The interesting one, this week, being team Trivial Pursuit of Happiness.

Being from Vancouver and Portland, they decided to meet in the middle:

pubQuiz, right?

Nice. But they never seem to do well.

The Blarney Stone doesn't do well with Songs containing a circus theme. nor Venn's 70's IPOD playlist.
Music clues, not their thing.

However, they do have a knack for recognizing young celebrities and telling them to get off the lawn. They also were big fans of the "Porn for the Blind" Themed round.

Seriously. Copious notes were taken. Internship requests were at an all time high.

Will we see more of the Porn for the Blind? Or simply hear it's elegant retelling of modern fine art? Or will we simply be left in the dark? Only one way to find out: Next Week! At the Blarney Stone!

April 29th, 2013 – The Blarney Stone

There is actual stone in here. Really. I had to kick it to be sure it was real.

Then Sprung licked it. Also verifying that it was real.

Things just got real.

As for the quiz…

The crew at the Blarney Stone seems to have a taste for:

Round 1: Are you just happy to see me? A round on things found in pockets.

I insisted that they keep their hands above the table, but they couldn’t.

Also, they seemed to know Artists based on the titles of famous singles.

What they don’t know: Any of the audio rounds

Round 2: Songs with only the vowel “A” in the Song Title

&

Round 7: Commercials featuring the company’s Executive.

Now, I’ll give them that they knew the company, but I regret to inform you that Snoop Lion is not the Executive for Chrysler, nor is John Schnatter simply known as Papa John.

Will the Blarney Stone finally be gifted the gift of Blarney? What will I do with the tastefully gifted DVD from Team SupercaliFRAUgilisticexpialadocious? Only one way to find out:

Next Week! At the Blarney Stone!
