Ken (Snarky Shark)

Hi Everyone,

This is Ken "Snarky Shark" Lindsay! I'm the current host of the GeeksWhoDrink Pubquiz over at the Blarney Stone, in downtown Seattle!

As for me, I'm pretty much a Seattlite. Sure, I've lived in California, Arizona, Washington, Idaho, but I definitely call this place my home. I dig the grunge scene and like the local legends Pearl Jam and Nirvana. However, I also dig a decent Irish jig (a shout out to Gaelic Storm, who do not visit Seattle enough!) , so the Blarney Stone has been ideal for me.

I got this gig to replace (impossible, I say!) Gentleman Johnny, the previous quizmaster, who happens to be a close friend of mine in real life! who would have thought? Personally, I dig science questions. Why? Well, in real life <le sigh> I'm a graduate student in the department of Biochemistry in the University of Washington. So, mixing pleasures is always fun. (Shaken not stirred, thankyouverymuch.)

I really enjoy the regular players, with their funny quirks, and the hopeful glean in the eyes of the newbies, who think they can win. (How quickly those hopes are shattered...) I'm always down for a pint with a friendly face, so if you ever want to talk, just let me know!

As for the moniker, "Snarky Shark", just wait until you are at the other end of the quiz. Don't know the answer? Oh, I'll know, I can smell the blood in the water...

June 17th, 2013 - The Blarney Stone

Let's be honest, when is the last time you went to a Library? Now think about how sad that is. This might explain your deficiencies at pubQuiz. I'll just stick to pubQuiz though. Seriously, check out a book.

Quiz tonight had some serious doodles made and I couldn't help but post them to tonight's blog. Enjoy them. They are pretty interesting. Besides the drawing, we had several new teams join us, so what are they interested in?

I'm not surprised that the folks at The Blarney Stone don't know much about:
Huey, Dewey, and Louie and Random Knowledge
I may have given up on the Random Knowledge bit. They will never seem to learn about it no matter how many times I review it.

However, they do seem to know:

Yiddish words and Basic House-hold chemicals as pictured in tonight's visual round. I can only picture a Jewish spin-off of 'Breaking Bad' at the moment. I'll savor that visual. As for you, check out the art.

Will we see more intense doodles during pubQuiz? Will more teams be joining us for "Rumble in the Pub"? and will the Jigglytuffs manage to place without Chris?

Find out next week! At the Blarney Stone!

June 10th, 2013 - The Blarney Stone
I'd say the one thing the Discovery Channel and The Blarney Stone have in common is that they are both filled with animals. Each an every one of them.

I kid, just the regulars.
The Round 7 audio round seemed pretty popular, although the reception towards a second playing of the Bloodhound Gang's song had a mixed reception. Those the liked it and those that had bad memories of the nineties.

I didn't mind playing it again.

Besides that round, they Blarney Stone also seems to have a thing for cars, with most guessing the correct Brand from the models on the first Go.
However, their main weaknesses appear to be:

Eurodance covers of popular songs and, what follows in that vein, Random Knowledge. They are going to have to work on that last one if they even want to compete in Rumble in the Pub.

This week, first place went to a new crew "Quiz Khalifa" and the Jigglytuffs managed to beat Happy Birthday Snarky Shark for Second place. Tempers rose, but was this just the challenge they needed? Will FRAU rise to their inebriated highs as is days past? Or is Jigglytuff the only one left to take on the Elite Four? Find out next week, at the Blarney Stone!

The Blarney Stone - June 3rd, 2013
Many new teams showed up tonight, but only a handful wereall in for "Rumble in the Pub". Nevertheless, I was happy to see that the ever classic rivalry between 'Happy Birthday Snarky Shark" and the ever colorful derivations of "FRAU" was still very much alive.
just how are they faring on the first few days of "Rumble in the Pub"?
They will rise to the top in no time if all the other rounds are like:
Round 1: Obvious Television Questions

&

Round 5: Visual rounds on awesome apparel, like crocs.

However, it will surely spell their doom if they don't manage to learn about:

Round 6: a round on cattle

&

Random Knowledge
That's how I knew that most of them were new. <Sigh>

At least that will be entertaining. <grin>

Will the Blarney Stone see even more new teams make an appearance? We've seen the return of the 'meme's, but what else is coming back? and when will we hear the end of that Game of Thrones "surprise"?

All that, and more, can be known. Next Week! At the Blarney Stone!
