Hi Everyone,

This is Snarky Shark. I'm the current host of the GeeksWhoDrink Pubquiz over at the Lunchbox Laboratory in South Lake Union and The Blarney Stone on Pike.

As for me, I'm pretty much a Seattlite. Sure, I've lived all over the Western United States, but I definitely call this place my home.

Personally, I dig science questions. Why? Well, in real life <le sigh> I'm a graduate student in the Department of Biochemistry in the University of Washington. Though, I can't say I've ever made a Kool-Aid cocktail as is the case with the Lunchbox Lab.

I really enjoy the regular players, with their funny quirks. As well as the hopeful glean in the eyes of the newbies who think they can win. (How quickly those hopes are shattered...)

Need a ringer for Chemistry? Biochemistry? Weird Geological Distributions of Heavy Metals? (Music and otherwise?) I can help with that. However, if you're on the other side of the quiz...I can't help you. But you're going to need it.

See you then.

September 15th, 2014 - The Blarney Stone

After a two week hiatus, The Blarney Stone is back with pub quiz, but alas only two teams made the showing tonight. Which just meant that the competition was more fierce.

In the one corner: The Unflappable FRAU

In the other corner: Shall Remain Nameless

Let's see how they did:
The certainly brough their full attention to bear on:

Round 1: Land of the Three...Superfluous Stanzas

All the answers could be made of the latters in "Star-Spangled"

&

Round 5: Visual Round - We Happy Few

Name the Actor who had a role in Band of Brothers.
Quite the patriotic spin on that one.

However, their attention was otherwise diverted when it came to...

Round 4: Yes, It's That Easy

The answer to each question would be found in the previous question.

Except the first question, of course.

&

Round 6: Lakes, Great, and Otherwise.

In which lake Superior is not so superior as it is shared with Canada...

Canadians...

So after a slow night of quiz, questions remain.
What form of time dialation causes a final quarter of footbal to last one hour? Just what was with that flock of germans coming in at 9PM? and just what am I going to do aboutthose itinerant quiz teams?

Find out. Next Week!

August 25th, 2014 - The Blarney Stone

I won't say if the headline is relevant to last night's game. I'll only say that alliterations are fun. Now let's focus on the problems with tonight's teams.

They have a good grasp of the basics on:

Round 1: The Three B's and Beyond

A round on musical things that start with the letter B.

&

Round 5: Visual Round: Stars with Gaps in their teeth.

Perhaps they could use a refresher when it comes to:

Round 4: Duh...What?

A round on which you probably shouldn't go with your first guess on the question. I was impressed with their knowledge of Chicken Tikka Marsala for the UK's national dish, but had to admit that Germany came up with Chinese Checkers, not the U.S. Which is Ok, I mean, everyone likes fortune cookies more anyway.

&

Random Knowledge.

Not to be confused with 'Rando' knowledge of your last sexual mis-adventure.

In a hilarious turn of events Is there a place below last place? managed to score last place. So, I guess they'll let us know if that is true. Thporths! managed to get fourTH! and Don't Quiz In My Eye! managed to dodge last place. Representing Canada's finest in tonight's quiz.

Props to Nailed It! who checked out tonight's quiz on their trip from California. Let 'em know that we're better, ok?

As for the rest? Well, our local Rumble teams all managed to place in the top three with bitter rivalries maintained until the very end. Will FRAU (a.k.a. plaid shirts boyz) end the played out boyz? Will Deep Fried Chow Mein turn up the heat on their competition? and will anyone dare challenge the relentless Happy Birthday Snarky Shark!?
Find out, the Week after next! <<<Note! Labor Day and whatnot!

(Yeah, I know a lot of you have to work, but quiz still ain't happening that day.)

August 18th, 2014 - The Blarney Stone

When "Rumble in the Pub" is on, it is pretty common to see a couple new teams show up at your venue to get a boost in their points. Still, that only means that a few teams are actually playing for the Rumble. Tonight, however, all teams were registered for the Rumble, so each was vying for those precious Rumble points.
So, seeing as they are all going for the gold, how did our golden teams fare in tonight's game?

They certainly have a comprehensive knowledge of:

Round 1: Scrabble for Dummies

Neologisms added to the Oxford Dictionary, which is looking more and more like Urban Dictionary by the year...

&

Round 3: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure or Wayne's World?

A fifty-fifty round on, you-guessed-it.
However, they will really have to pick up some knowledge on these topics if they want an edge in the final tournement.
Round 6:Hickory, Daiquiri, Dock

An oh-so-comprehensive round on meats, drinks, and sailing.

&

Round 7: Robin got Range

An audio round on Robin William's dramatic roles.
At least it wasn't Random Knowledge this time.

Props go to team Poundtown Abbey for not only taking home first place, but also having a clever team name. Additional props to FRAU for representing the crew at the Blarney stone.
Will we continue to see nothing but Rumble teams? Will Happy Brithday Snarky Shark Bite back? and will I am Groot realize that the answer isn't always "I am Groot."?
Find out. Next week.

At The Blarney Stone!
