Hi Everyone,

This is Snarky Shark. I'm the current host of the GeeksWhoDrink Pubquiz over at the Lunchbox Laboratory in South Lake Union.

As for me, I'm pretty much a Seattlite. Sure, I've lived all over the Western United States, but I definitely call this place my home.

Personally, I dig science questions. Why? Well, in real life <le sigh> I'm a graduate student in the Department of Biochemistry in the University of Washington. Though, I can't say I've ever made a Kool-Aid cocktail as is the case with the Lunchbox Lab.

I really enjoy the regular players, with their funny quirks. As well as the hopeful glean in the eyes of the newbies who think they can win. (How quickly those hopes are shattered...)

Need a ringer for Chemistry? Biochemistry? Weird Geological Distributions of Heavy Metals? (Music and otherwise?) I can help with that. However, if you're on the other side of the quiz...I can't help you. But you're going to need it.

See you then.

April 21st, 2014 - The Blarney Stone

It is surprising how often a team tries to shoe-horn an answer into fit the category or just the question in general. In tonight's example, I asked what was the catch-phrase for a character from Dragnet which fit the theme of the round in which all questions rhymed with each other. The previous answer was Axe, so...

Just the ____'s, Ma'am. Could it be?

Sex? No.

Backs? No.

Tax? Why on Earth would that be an answer?

In any case, a few managed to stick to the facts and pubQuiz continued it's investigation into the depths of the Blarney Stone knowledge. Luckily, I'll only need to bring my flip-flops.

They seem almost too well-informed when it comes to:
Round 3: Vegging out - a round on Television.

&

Round 7: Rhyme Time Audio Round. All the answers would rhyme with each other.

But they can't seem to recall:
Round 5: Visual Round on Bad Sidekicks.

Which, oddly, had so much potential.

&

Random Knowledge!

WTF, Blarney Stone?!We've covered this! You need to get it together on this Random Knowledge bit! Despite my misgivings on that last part, a good time was had by all. We sang Happy Birthday to Martha, of Blarney stone fame while I glossed over the continuous praise of team "Happy Birthday Snarky Shark!" Which took home First place.

Once again putting my lack of favoritism into serious question.

Nevertheless, team Old FRAU gave them a run for their money, in which only their collective hangover prevented them from winning. With that miscalculation, Team Deep Fried Chow Mein broke from the pack and took home second place.
But the case isn't closed, yet. Will that team ever find their car? Will Team Han Solo continue flying solo? and does everyone seem to be having a birthday, lately?

Find out. Next week!

At the Blarney Stone!

April 14th, 2014 - The Blarney Stone

Admittedly, I should have known that trying to listen to clips from 'Between two Ferns' would be a bit difficult is a bar, but I was going to Galafinish that round anyway.

Tonight, The Blarney Stone was joined by a few new teams.Team 'Pho' started off strong, but found that Random knowledge has a way of turning the tables in the final round of quiz. On top of that, team 'The Concept' took home half the bonus Question pints with some intense knowledge of questions that left the other teams stumped. In fact, there was some border-line pre-cognition stuff going on with one team member turning in the answer before I finished half the question.
Spooky.
But enough tales on that feat. How did the rest of The Blarney Stone do in tonight's game?

The select few have some comprehension of:

Round 1: He ruins everything! Each answer contains letters from the name 'Michael Bay'.
&
Round 6: Old Country Music A round on muscial Jews.

But they could not have prepared for:

Round 3: A timed round on the works of Mike Judge.

Being a fan of his work was just not enough...
&
Round 7: Audio round from Between two Ferns.

Name the word being replaced by 'Galifinakis'. I was reminded that there are a number of word for 'muff', but only one answer could snatch the point for the question.
Interesting mix of teams here at The Blarney Stone, tonight, but what lies in store for next week? Will team 'Fluffy Bunny Terror Squad' inspire actual terror? Will 'The Concept' become something more? and is 'Pho' pun-worthy?
Find out. Next week!

At The Blarney Stone.

April 7th, 2014 - The Blarney Stone

The comic book theme continues in this week's Visual Round: Cross-hatching is for the weak. In which players were to guess the comic book character from the picture given. Sure, they did well, but Good Team "Good FRAU" caught some spotlight for their:"Sexual Heroes" rendition. Who appears on this randy roster?

1. The Silver Slurper

2. Guy Cocks

3. Tit Girl

4. The Dick

5. Swamp Ass

6. The THANG

7. Water Sports

8. House of Menstration.

Ok, that last one wasn't so great, but well played.
So, how did the rest of the Blarney Stone fare? They are an effective team when it comes to facing down:

Round 3: Knife or Banana? Which one was I talking about?

&

Round 5: Cross-hatching is for the weak...

Dat Visual Round...
However, their biggest weakness might be:

Round 2: Audio Round with a Baseball theme

Round 7: Remember me? I was on a Cheers...

Audio Round to guess the movie based off the appearance of an actor from cheers.

&

Random Knowledge

That might be the worst one of all.

The Bunch at The Blarney Stone are fairly evenly matched.Despite trailing in the beginning, Deep Fried Chow Mein sprang back in the final round, but it was not enough to leave last place. What did remain from that aftermath was a difference in 2 point between first and last place! Teams EVIL FRAU and "Happy Birthday Snarky Shark!" battled it off in a sudden death match that left EVIL FRAU in the dust. Good FRAU prevailed over all. A true comic-book finish.

With the NCAA out of the way, will we see more sports fanatics atthe Stone? Or will they be replaced by canine aficianados? Where did all the damn googly eyes come from? And just what do the sexual heroes have to say about that?

Find out next week.
