Hi Everyone,

This is Snarky Shark. I'm the current host of the GeeksWhoDrink Pubquiz over at the Lunchbox Laboratory in South Lake Union and The Blarney Stone on Pike.

As for me, I'm pretty much a Seattlite. Sure, I've lived all over the Western United States, but I definitely call this place my home.

Personally, I dig science questions. Why? Well, in real life <le sigh> I'm a graduate student in the Department of Biochemistry in the University of Washington. Though, I can't say I've ever made a Kool-Aid cocktail as is the case with the Lunchbox Lab.

I really enjoy the regular players, with their funny quirks. As well as the hopeful glean in the eyes of the newbies who think they can win. (How quickly those hopes are shattered...)

Need a ringer for Chemistry? Biochemistry? Weird Geological Distributions of Heavy Metals? (Music and otherwise?) I can help with that. However, if you're on the other side of the quiz...I can't help you. But you're going to need it.

See you then.

July 21st, 2014 - The Blarney Stone

Ok, ok, perhaps there were one or two complaints. Most concerning the lack of "Pornstache" ofOrange is the New Black fame in tonight's visual round. Clearly it would have been thematic, but then again, you all would have got it right. That's hardly fair is it?

Not that I care.

Tonight had a few impromptu teams, with that "Let's give it a shot" attitude.

They definitely walked into the right place with:

Round 2: That never happened to me before.

Songs with sexual dysfunction innuendo.

Did you hear about the night club named erectile dysfunction.

It was a huge flop. Nobody came.

On that note, they also did very well with Round 5 Visual round on Mustachioed gentlemen.

Despite their complaints.

However, they should have kept their wits about them on...

Round 3: Huh, Huh, "Winter's Bone"A Timed round on Jennifer Lawrence Movies.

&

Round 4: That's So Fetch - A round on mean girls and dog training.

All in all a good game. Props to team #Butts for not only throwing and unmistakeable gang-sign, butalso putting down the boast of team Happy Birthday Snarky Shark for first place victory. Got to keep the local champs on their toes.
As a side note: Ray receives ALL THE BLAME for their loss.
Will Emotional Tampon manage to keep it together? Will You Betcha break their "Yes, man" behaviour? and will the return of Kim bring with it, a name?
Find out. Next week!

At The Blarney Stone.

July 14th, 2014 - The Blarney Stone

The Free Bonus Questions Pint is always an interesting time. The locals will tend to frenzy to secure their spot up front, whereas newcomers are left bewildered. What makes it more interesting is when they have the smugness to pre-load an answer to what they think the question will be. In tonight's mystery round, each answer was the name of a Nick Cage film. Which you would figure out if you managed to answer a few of the questions.

As a result, most of the players sauntered up to the stand, writing down "Nick Cage" in mid-stride. But no. That wasn't the question. What is his last name, as part of a famous Italian family?

Coppola.

They didn't have that one. In their shock, they furiously tried to find the pencil they put down, the answer-sheet already at arms length, but alas only one could win.

Better luck next time.

However, as enjoyable as it is, that is only 1 part of the quiz. The Rest?
They'll get a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes for...

Round 4: Carmen ain't here, man.

Name the female video-game character in league with Carmen Sandiego.

&

Round 6: This round is not Gluten-Free.

A round on bread.

But they won't even reach cult-status with how bad they did on...

Audio Round 7: Podcash!

Name the podcast/radio show or it's host doing some ad-time.

&

RANDOM KNOWLEDGE

At the end of the night, sparks flew as two rivalries clashed once more! In one corner, fierce competitors Happy Birthday Snarky Shark! In the other corner, long-time FRAU Loves Snarky Shark's Naked Pecs!

I get a shout-out in both cases. No matter how uncomfortable that may be.

HBSS shrugged the traditional Dance-Off in lieu of a sudden death quiz round. Following up on the suggestion of Team Deep Fried Chow Mein, I might just add a drinking challenge to the next tie breaker.

But I digress, I rattled off 5 intense questions to for both teams. As I tallied up the score, running through them one question at a time, I was certain we'd be in for another round.

But what is this?!

On the last of five questions, we had a winner!

Producer of CSI is Jerry Bruckheimer!

and the winner? FRAU!

Will Hot & Bothered be satisfied with not getting last place? Will Puss in Suits continue to be so catty?and dare I ask, just how far is Super Balls Deep?
Find out. Next week!

July 7th, 2014 - The Blarney Stone

Tonight we had a rather interesting night at The Blarney Stone. Three of the Four Teams were from out of town.

California

New Jersey

and

Texas

I was bit surprised, but was curious to see how things worked out. They all seemed familiar with GeeksWhoDrink, but what would they think of the local flavor?

Well, all in all, they made a decent showing when it came to:

Round 4: Recently in Stuff

&

Round 5 Visual Round: Everything is Better in Rubber

Identify the celebrity from the rubber mask.
However, they were united in their ignorance of:

Round 2: Eight Songs Four Titles

&

Round 3: Missing Persons

Identify the missing person from the group.

While Bogus Maloney made a strong showing from the get go. It appeared that our local champs FRAU and a bald guy would show them who was boss around here, but from the back of the pack The Great 908 swipe victory from the jaws of third place. Guess I'll have to whip these local teams into shape.

Props to Team Texans in Seattle F-Yea for sticking through it to the very end.

No one will mess with you any time soon.

So, has the Blarney Stone become the destination for pubquiz? Will I make use of that app that finds Irish pubs? and have I grown a bit of respect for people from Jersey?

Find out. Next week.

At The Blarney Stone!
