I prefer chai tea to coffee, love the Golden Girls, am obsessed with KU basketball, and always put the toilet paper roll on backwards.

Sometimes I have to sound out "wed-nes-day".

Alley here, subbing in for Jen again!

I love coming to the Green Room. Always a solid showing with folks who are incredibly engaged and excited to be there, even with their beloved Royals playing on the various televisions scattered around the bar.

Of course we saw the regulars (even regular to me who only swings by every now and again), Animatronic Grandma, who added a familiar face from the bar to their normal line up. And a team that readily pointed out which one was not like the other, 5 Homos and a Straight Shooter. Not that I care, but I appreciate the clarification.

What shined through last night was the teams' dedication to quiz and also respect for one another. Of course I saw someone pick up their phone a little too close to the end of round 8. Did anyone narc or get shitty? No. Of course I knew Dave's Not Here, Man with seven team members, but so did they. Did they fight their DQ? Hell no. They shouted it from the rooftops and made it clear to everyone, especially the true first place winners Aren't You a Little Black to be a Stormtrooper? that they were bowing out gracefully. Most excited of all was the team who used their old standby rather than Bill is to Lewinski as Hillary is to Bieber, because she needs to get hers too, good ol' Menace to Sobriety. They took their third place win in stride and were stoked for that.

Gotta love the environment at Green Room. Great food, great folks, great atmosphere.

1) Aren't you a little black to be a stormtrooper?
2) Animatronic Grandma
3) Menace to sobriety

It would be a pleasure to come back again, if you'll have me.

Until next time!

Longtime quizzer, newbie quizmaster. Music nut and lover of queer/feminist sci-fi in all of its forms. KCMO is now my home, although I claim Arkansas as my root. I've got lots of nicknames and if you come up with one I like, I might add it to the list.

It’s always fun coming back to quiz after missing a week. I enjoy seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new ones. The great folks at the Green Room always greets you with something tasty to eat and drink. It’s always a pleasure to return to such a fun bunch of folks, but on to the quiz!

We opened with an alliterative round which allowed us to discuss our favorite literary devices. All of the teams did a great job coming up with two word alliterative phrases about a variety of things. Some expressed their love of alliteration, while others professed a love of onomatopoeia, satire, and allegory. My personal favorite is assonance because, well, it sounds like swearing, but it’s really a smarty pants literary thing and it lends itself to rhyming. There must have been lots of English majors or minors in the house, because everyone did pretty well on our opening round.

Music rounds are a favorite of mine and our last audio round gave us as second round of music to test our quizzers. Lots of artists have covered Beatles songs, but Let It Be has been covered by lots of singers and this round featured eight of those. From the opening clip, we were in for a challenge and I have to agree that the first sounded a lot like Elton John, but it was actually Meat Loaf exploring his sensitive side. Many teams picked up that the third clip featured a very soulful voice, but only a few picked up that it was the Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin. I was pleasantly surprised that so many of you recognized the fantastic voice of Bill Withers. And none of us expected or recognized the tough as nails rocker Chrissie Hynde to pop up with her version of Let It Be. And to prove that American Idol has passed its prime, no body recognized Kris Allen who was the winner of the show’s eighth season. Might be time to hang it up, Simon…

Every week we seem to have some close finishes here and tonight’s quiz looked like it was going to be a squeaker. With a tie for first at the break, Animatronic Grandma and Marc Rubio: The Other Hispanic Floridian Candidate looked to be in for a tough fight. As the dust settled, Marc Rubio: The Other Hispanic Floridian Candidate came out on top and Animatronic Grandma took home second place. Great Job! hung on to take home third place and our beer prize for the night.

Geeks Who Drink is celebrating Free Comic Book Day and the release of something called Avengers:  Age of Ultron with Awesome Mix Vol 2:  A Marvel Quiz on Saturday May 2nd.  Find all the details here!

Thank you all for a great night of quizzing. You're each special and let's do it again soon.

Twas a small, but mighty crowd that showed up at the Green Room. Subbing always brings a lot of unknown variables, and tonight was not exception. Tonight brought Opening day for the Royals and the NCAA championship game which definitely took a toll, but we prefer an intimate crowd anyway.

While Jen was away, we all played and I tried to read. In fact, I read a little too much. But we bounced back from my apparent inability to discern questions from answers and carried on like nothing happened.

Highlights include: a napking proclaiming Jesus as a savior, messiah and bonus question answer, including that the napkin was unused (much appreciated); not being the only person who thinks Star Jones losing weight wasn't the best idea (turns out, she isn't so pretty underneath all the fat); an explanation of first, second and third place; and getting complimented on my playlist multiple times.

1) Animatronic Grandma took the money and ran

2) Tripod chose a beer prize

3) Hola, donde esta Jeb Bush? Como? Porque? took the money and ran too

HDEJBCP? needed to bust out for some RuPaul watching fun, so I had to oblige them and get them out at our regularly scheduled quiz time.

It was a pretty solid night given the ridiculous amount of sporting events and the slight drizzle. My guess is they'll be back next week when Jen returns home.

Until next friends...which is sooner than you think.
