Longtime quizzer, newbie quizmaster. Music nut and lover of queer/feminist sci-fi in all of its forms. KCMO is now my home, although I claim Arkansas as my root. I've got lots of nicknames and if you come up with one I like, I might add it to the list.

Excitement was high for our Monday quiz. Most people have a short work week which always fosters a good mood. Others were already looking forward to smothering a piece of pumpkin pie with whipped cream before passing out for a nap. Whatever the motivation, a great bunch of quizzers showed up to play quiz and we had a fine time making that happen.

aMusic rounds are my favorite, whether I’m running quiz or on the rare occasion that I get to play quiz. Tonight’ round took us to a higher level with songs that were Up There, way high in the sky. I had to start out by apologizing for the first clip because torture is against the Geneva Conventions and Creed meets that cutoff in my opinion. At least we got it out of the way early. Several teams impressed me with their knowledge of one hit wonders from the late nineties when they pulled Tal Bachman from their memory bands for his hit She’s So High. Nice work! Some teams got mixed up on the title for the clip by Blondie. While she does sing about being number one in the song, the title is The Tide is High. Close, but not quite there.

Tonight marked the return of the timed round and it was a bit rough on everyone. We all learned that Europe is not that big and that Paris is located in the north of France. Under the pressure of a time crunch, some teams forgot this. Naming countries with their capitals within 550 miles of Paris was a challenge for tonight’s teams. There are a lot of small countries that people just tend to forget about although they are fun to say. Andorra. Lichtenstein. Luxembourg. I know we all learned a few things tonight and that’s always a rewarding endeavor.

Urethra Franklin made the comeback of the night with the highest Round 8 score coupled with a joker to take first place. Animatronic Grandma and 44 and Time to Score ended up in a tie for second and we went for a race to the bottom of a pint glass. Tonight, Animatronic Grandma got there first and took home second place. 44 and Time to Score ended up with third place and a Pap Louie’s growler full of Old Country Promise and a bottle of Firestone Walker Opal to enjoy.

Thank you all for a great night of quizzing.  You're each special and let's do it again soon.

Tonight we squeezed all the fun out of quiz that we could. I didn’t think we could get more out of it than usual, but we did. We even got to tell the Giants to suck it in the first question of the first round. And it just went up from there.

I’m usually not a fan of strange guys squeezing anybody’s box, but tonight’s music round featured songs all done on the accordian. Coming up with the original title and artist was easier for some teams than others as we all gritted our teeth to make it through the round. From the dirge like cover of My Heart Will Go On to Imagine, which probably is making John Lennon spin in his grave, we struggled through. I didn’t think that Blurred Lines could get worse, but the accordion version proved me wrong. We ended the round with a song that almost redeemed the whole thing. You Spin Me Round by Dead Alive. On accordion. That’s a wunnerful thing! One team rocked a 15 point round while a few racked up 14 point rounds, all with jokers. Lawrence Welk would have been proud of everyone!

Colder Than You Are might not have the most accurate name, because I’ve been freezing my ass off, but that didn’t matter tonight since they rallied to finish in first place. Anal Crepes finished in second, but had too many folks on their team so no prize tonight. Animatronic Grandma finished strong to take home second for the night. Channing Datum…I Would ended up in the third place spot and took home a Pap Louie’s growler full of Old Country Promise and a bottle of Repent Rye for their hard work.

Always remember who the enemy is. It's the other teams. Duh. Our first ever Hunger Games quiz is coming to select cities on Thursday, November 20th and the odds are ever in your favor. Volunteer as tribute and find all the details at geekswhodrink.com/hungergames.

Sometimes the winds from Kansas blow fresh and clean, but tonight there was a definite odor of poop blowing in from the west. I could say something about last week elections, but I'm not going to touch that one because the reality of the situation is bad enough. Sometimes Westport just smells, but this was more than that. Despite the winds of crap, we had a great bunch of quizzers in to play tonight and extra prizes to hand out from Dumb and Dumber To.

Everybody likes sweet, sweet music and Round 2 featured some sweet songs. Several teams clued in on the sweet theme and realized that all of the song titles had sweet in them. Everyone did well on the first two but only a few teams knew Chuck Barry singing Sweet Little Sixteen. Then we all swayed along to the sounds of Sweet Love, but several teams got Grammy winner Anita Baker mixed up with Toni Braxton. That’s a pretty fair mix up so I get that. Only a few teams picked out Sweeter by Gavin deGraw so good for them. Our last song featured a sultry singer with a deep voice. I’m not sure how someone got Sade confused with George Michael, but one of my teams did. At least I got a laugh out of that one. No perfect scores on this one tonight, but Animatronic Grandma got close with a 14 point round.

We had a close quiz tonight with Animatronic Grandma and Macaulay Culkin Death Hoax tied for first after five rounds. Round 6 which was all about Santa Clara County really shook some teams up. But it came down to the final round to determine who would end up on top. The random knowledge round is a tough one and tonight was no exception. Several teams used a last minute joker to jump up in the standings, but a 13 point round secured the lead for our winner for tonight.

Macaulay Culkin Death Hoax came out on top and took home first place. ISIS ISIS Baby came on strong in the final rounds to secure second. Urethra Franklin also finished well for third place and our beer bounty. Tonight I had extra prizes so fourth place took home some Dumb and Dumber To swag including sweat shirts, t-shirts, and screening passes, but with a tie for fourth, it was time for some rock paper scissors. The Shit Wind is Coming took two out of three for to claim the prize, but were nice enough to share the movie passes with Animatronic Grandma so everybody took home something for their hard work.
