I'm not going to lie to you, folks, I'm pretty damn tired right now. It's late and I have to wake up in less than five hours. Why am I up so late? I got home from the quiz about 10:30, so I can't blame the quiz. No, the blame lies entirely with me. I get so easily distracted by the damn Internet. Pictures/videos of animals doing funny things? Sure. Workaholics clips on YouTube? You bet. Aimless wandering from one link to the next? Certainly. I know I'm not the only one who gets sucked into the black hole that is the Internet. Oh man, I'm dozing off. Lately I've been spending my lunch breaks just kicking back in my car. It's pretty awesome. I'm looking forward to taking a nap tomorrow in the backseat of my car. Why did I just talk about that? ejh'oy8 (That was my hand falling on the keyboard when I fell asleep all of a sudden...a sure sign that it's time for me to sign off.)
Drew is temporarily away so you will have to deal with me hosting for a bit. See you next week. Sleepy time. Night night.

First off, I want to know why the hell it always rains on Wednesdays here. It seems like every other quiz it's either raining or snowing, while the rest of the week it's all drought conditions.
But that apparently isn't nearly as confusing as Reddit. Or Subreddits for that matter. Lets set aside the fact that despite being one of the largest news and social media hubs on the web, no one at quiz seemed to even know what it was. We can also ignore the bizarre culture of Reddit, since judging by the scores, no one at quiz has ever been on it. Most teams got less than half right, with the majority in the 2 or 3 point range, except for two teams who apparently decided that questions are for jerks and just answered "real" to everything. But, believe it or not, that actually worked out best.
When the top strategy is to answer all the same in a multiple choice round, you really have to wonder how much everyone has had to drink. Then you realize, that's actually a statistically valid strategy. Which leads to the question, with forums on pooping, simple explanations and all these smart people have never heard of it: What's so great about Reddit?
So I did some research. In fact, I did a lot of research. It turns out, Reddit is basically a news aggregator, but what people like is the ability to post anything and create a board (subreddit) on it. Judging by the round, those can get pretty obscure. It occurred to me that this could be very useful for people who sign up for the weekly email to research themes (so folks should sign up, hint). It also occurred to me that I much prefer drinking to reading stuff on the internet. Nonetheless, people really get into it and from what I've read, it's helped in everything from the Occupy Wall Street protests to giving a school bus driver over $700,000 dollars for stopping a bully (no shit, that really happened).
So maybe I shouldn't be such a hater and learn to enjoy diving deep into a subject on the internet. But I think I'll stick to quiz. Rounds on Satanic verses and foreign actors pretending to be american are way more my style. I wonder if there's a Reddit on that…

Vince Lombardi once said "If you can't accept losing, you can't win." He makes a good point, even in quiz. There really is only one winning team each week and even though you could say Bonus answers, second place prizes and Email questions broaden the number of winners, the truth is some people win, but at some point in the quiz everyone is going to lose.
Most of the time teams take losing in stride. It's no big deal, happens all the time. Some teams have less to worry about, as they're dynasties that are usually in the top three and thus a win is right around the corner to soothe their loss, like our winners last night We Teach Therefore We Drink. Those guys kill it. They're always in the running for a win. But sadly, that means on the flip side there is the opposite of a dynasty: a team that perpetually loses.
In a way, these teams are actually more rare than a dynasty. Winning most of the time is encouraging and teams always come back for their next shot. But when you have no shot, well people tend to give up. Or complain. Or just drink themselves out of the quiz. Take round 6 last night for example. I heard from many teams on how hard it was and that all those foreign words were hard to understand (tell me about it). Most just left blank answers.
Yet when you lose all the time, it's sorta paradoxical. Like being at rock bottom, you've actually got nothing to lose. And that's the attitude that We Always Lose takes. True, Black Pearl Island was not set free by the Treaty of Paris and Billy Joel didn't name check "Bacon Bacon Bacon!" Moreover, 27 regions including Brittany and Burgandy was not a reference to porn star names, but baiting me into saying "arrears" and making abut sex joke out of your lousy answer, well that's aces in my book.
So perhaps losing is better put by another football great, Joe Paterno. He said "Losing a game is heartbreaking. Losing your sense of excellence or worth is a tragedy." And judging by the laughter they illicit last night, We Always Lose should have that in spades. Because writing "(This is correct) <- Jedi mind trick" doesn't really work like a Jedi mind trick, it kinda does.
