After dancing through the streets of Capitol hill past dawn yesterday morning a band of hardy quizzers staggered down the hill to the waterfront to take on our weekly quiz. Seattle looked like it had just hosted the biggest frat party kegger ever seen. Amongst the groggy survivors of the citywide dance party were the Creepers, Raging Clue, and Canada (who just found out the night before that they didn't need to move there now.) Paddy Coyne veterans Dont Blame Me, I Voted for the Lemon Party played under yet another name, I am Gspurning (named for our new goalkeeper) repesented the Emerald City Supporters club (Sounders fans.) And D is for Degree (must of been fuzzy studies) and Drink til it's Sunny (who lived up to their name) rounded out the hungover masses.
Your intrepid quizmaster was in only slightly better shape after a few hours sleep. Amongst the malaprops I managed to refer to John Denver as a dead amatuer "pirate" instead of pilot, (lotsa piratical activity near the Great Sea of Pueblo in those days.) Special Kudos to the patron who tried to order a "3 Squeeze Louise" at the bar (vodka and breast milk, perhaps?) It's amazing how many people think you can buy anything at Trader Joe's. Or order it at a bar.
The final standings came in a close 1,2,3. Dont Blame Me I Voted for the Lemon Party just edging out I Am Gspurning (say that 3 times fast while hungover) and Raging Clue by 1 and 2 points respectively. I'm thinking next election, we can celebrate it with a much more traditional, old fashioned Seattle riot. That or a Divorce party.

It was a spectacular night of costumed craziness for this first time quizmaster. In group costume ideas the leaders were the team that dressed as 5 different characters from Pacman, followed closely by 4 Scoobie gang members (complete with the great Dane himself.) But my personal faves have to be those paragons of pulchritudonous perfection from Sexy Syrup Sailors. Wow! If any of my shipmates had looked like them, I might still be working a college summer job on a fishing boat. Unfortunately, my would-be crewmates were all old tunamen who made the Sons Of Anarchy look downright enchanting.
I nearly lost it completely when I heard the In Living Color parodies for the first time in years. Jim Carrey's version of Ice Ice Baby had me shpilkes and I couldn't even finish scoring the previous round when Hammertime showed. Our ultimate winners, the veteran Paddy Coyne quizzers Bitch Please must have the same reaction as they aced the round and led going away for the rest of the quiz.
Midi-Chlorians are STDs won a tiebreaker for 2nd place with the breathtaking Sexy Syrup Sailors. Special mention given for Star Wars 7: A Lost Hope who would have made it a 3-way (always a favorite) but for a very well-argued disputed answer on the male, non human animal question in round 8. We will await a review from the referees committee at Errorogenous Zones and a final ruling from the Commissioner of Drunken Geekdom. And I will cover their next round for being good sports about it.
All in all a glorious time was had by all. And the people rejoiced!!! Huzzah!

Facts we learned last night*:
Another thrilling pub quiz last night as for the second week in a row we had a tie! But before that, lets hear it for Army of Two who made sure no one coul dget last place besides them - come back next week to redeem yourselves boys! Heading into the final round, it seemed to be a game between How Do I Spell Rimshot and Fist Pickers holding down the top two spots. But as proven last week, you can never count out Bitch Please!
Fist Pickers ran away with first place, but Bitch Please fought back for the second week in a row to tie it up with How Do I Spell Rimshot. Rimshot probably was hoping for a swish but alas their last effort with the tie-breaker question bounced off the rim (was the corny enough for ya?). Bitch Please proved they’ve got Gangnam Style by pulling off the close victory and finishing in second place again!
But for the next week, Fist Pickers remain kings and queens, pumping their… fists… in victory!
See ya next week, and remember to wear your Halloween costumes for your chance to win a prize from Paddys!
