We had a crazy night. The crowds ignored the downpour of droplets that ravaged the land. I actually got damp walking in. We had masses show up for our quiz...and some were willing to watch the game, too. A big howdy to my cardinal friends who dropped by. Oh, and sorry Spurs.
Many thanks to Quizmaster Will! I had some technical difficulties, and like a white knight of Columbus, he swooped in to save the day with a quick trip to Radio Shack. I owe you a few more crappy American light beers.
R1 was all on nicknames of US states. Some of you got the clue about Colorado joining the Union in 1876, so they were the Centennial State. A lot of you got that Delaware was the first to ratify the Constitution. I thought Arkansas was the Natural State cuz they don't believe in deodorant.
R2 was songs about hookers. We had Blondie's Call Me, Queen's Killer Queen, and The Stones' Honky Tonk Woman, but most of y'all got Fiddy's PIMP. Old people got TLC's Red Light Special and Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream.
R3 was the round where you had to tell me if I was talking about Chris Tucker or Chris Rock. Tucker is younger, was in Silver Linings Playbook, got nominated for a Razzie for 5th Element when he should've got an Oscar, and was in an MJ video. Rock voiced Osmosis Jones and Lil' Penny, was in Louie and produces Totally Biased.
R4 was aenoug is aenough. Aell the aenswers started with "AE." We had a great anime that was a shitty movie, Aeon Flux; a great band that turned into a shitty band, Aerosmith (Toys in the Attic vs Love in an Elevator); aerospace and Aeneid.
R5 was messed up movie posters from other countries. Y'all did well on this. Aliens was the only one that tripped people up.
And then came R6. This one screwed a lot of you up. You had to give me two nerdy answers to get one point. I was looking for blasters/phaser, Xbox One/PSP4, nobody knew the guys from MST3K, Middle Earth/Westeros (not King's Landing), Wolf/Rat, 8/X, Optimus Prime/Leader 1 (yeah, Go Bots were sort of a cheap knock off), and GA/NY.
Teams did well with the 4th Wall movie clips. The bar owner is working on getting the tvs to look normal, and not so green.
As always, it came down to Random Knowledge. The guy who didn't need teammates was not lying. He came from behind to take the lead. Who the hell knew about Taco John's. That shit would not play in Texas. I did know Camp North Star was in Meatballs. I can still sing the CIT song.
I hope y'all had a good time. I'll see y'all next week.

Great crowd tonight! Thanks to all the basketball fans who were expecting to hear the game, but instead just watched it while I ran the quiz.
We started off with a round on better halves. Solomon tried to cut a bitch, I mean baby. Don't order a Black & Tan in Eire. That name was for the English soldiers who treated the Irish really abysmally. Satyr's are half goat and all horny.
Teams did well in the audio round. Only a few knew the name of the Natalie Merchant song, Carnival. Only one team knew Subterranean Homesick Blues. For homework, go watch that Dylan video.
R3 sucked hard. It was extremely difficult and the scores showed it. NSAnal leakage got six questions right, and they were the top scorer this round.
Things went much better for R4, Recently In Stuff. Teams knew where the police violence is, who won the French Open, who shot Treyvon, and the name of the new NSA chief bitch.
Everyone got all the questions right on R5. Gunnutz.
Scores were sorta middlin in the round on BNL's One Week. Go watch the movie The Wall. You'll never look at your eyebrows the same again.
The 8-bit clips from movies and films in our video round were amazing. Most teams got most of the questions correct.
It all came down to Random Knowledge. We had Johnny Appleseed, Wilson Phillips (sorry,) cloche hats, French names, Portuguese speaking countries, and Steve Carrell roles.
See y'all next Tuesday!

We had 15 teams in here tonight. It was crowded like a mug. I think the hot weather drove everyone off the patio into the a/c.
In R1 all the answers started with "nic...". Teams did well except nobody know nictitating membrane.
The audio round was a tour around Europe. It was a great mix of genres. It took a diverse team to know ABBA, Beatles, Clash, Cake, Kanye, Ray Charles, Neutral Milk Hotel, and They Might Be Giants. Norwegian Wood is still one of my favorite Beatles' songs. And to the unnamed team who thought that was the Monkees, you saddened my soul.
In R3, most teams shit the bed. And it's Patti Smith, not that bitch from Scandal. Oh, and Fargo will always trump Twilight. Always. Even if it's the wrong answer.
Congrats on knowing Heathers and Oh Brother Where Art Thou in R4, but too many people missed Sugarhill Gang. That was my song in 6th grade.
R5 was a big winner for most of y'all. Agent K seemed to be the one that hung people up.
R6 taught us that 3D Chess was from Star Trek, which is why Big Bang Theory had it on their show. Nobody should know Kingdom Hearts or King Kandy...unless they work with kids. And how the fuck did so many of you know who Mark Addy was?
The countdowns in R7 were not that hard, but you had to tell me which one in the series. It was Star Trek 3: Search for Spock, Lethal Weapon 3, Aliens, and Naked Gun 2 1/2. You did know it was the 5th Element. LOL
And it came down to Random Knowledge. Bob's Badasses got all 16 points and jokered, but they started too late to place. I saw lots of French authors...some of them Proust. Many of you thought Utah and Montana had higher mountains than Alaska.
See you next Tuesday. I had a great time, hope you did too!
