Thanks to everyone either for forsaking your mothers to come to the Black Star quiz, or for being a mother and forsaking your kids to come to the quiz!
Yeah, it was Mother's Day, and I neither got my mom anything nor did I see her at all throughout the day. Then again, I have a pretty good excuse-- she's on a cruise somewhere in Central America right now, avoiding everything having to do with cheesy Hallmark-created "holidays".
...wow, that last part made me sound like I should be holed up in my basement, studying articles on 9-11 conspiracies and mailing threatening letters to my congressmen.
On to the quiz recap!
The TV Showception round was pretty interesting. And we got two John Lithgow-related questions in the Tom, Dick, and Harry round, which I think should be the next subject of one of our famous themed quizzes. What, you can't get behind 64-or-so questions about the star of the last segment of Twilight Zone: the Movie and the fourth season of Dexter???
Poseur.
And oh man, we had jokers flying around everywhere tonight! The only rounds that no teams dared to double up were 1 and 5. I guess no one was keen on martial arts or little-seen celebrities.
Which raises the question: if you don't know what they look like, are they still officially celebrities? I mean, if no one recognizes them when you invite them to your annual charity gala for multiple sclerosis, then why the fuck am I sending a hand-written embossed invitation to Giorgio Armani anyway??
I should save it for Tim Gunn.
Thanks for quizzing with me tonight! It was a lot of fun, especially given how unpredictable and volatile the scores were. Which is how I like my women. And my coffee. (I have second-degree burns. From both.)

Got to admit, last night all y'all were pretty sluggish. Not the most lively quizzers I've seen but then again what can you expect since the night before everyone was celebrating Cinco De Mayo. When people consume that much mayonnaise there is bound to be repercussions. Also, I have to say publicly that I F"N love mayonnaise and I'm happy to see it finally has its own holiday.
I was impressed but not surprised by everyone's ability to ace round one, STATE HAIKUS, after the very impressive showing you all had during our STAR WARS haiku poetry slam. Five teams had perfect scores and two more got at least 7/8. Round two wasn't so impressive both in content and the results. High score went to Stone Cold Jane Austen (2nd) when they edged out their rivals One Whore Town (1st) 11 to 10 in that round but in round 8 the Whores wend 15/16 and jokered; there was little SCJA could do.
Perfect scores were running rampant last night making the Black Star Co-Op look like some kind of quiz version of a home run derby. All but one team scored 8/8 in round 4 and everyone went 8/8 in the visual round. Later on in round 6 the Whores were the only team to get them all right. Thus the friendly rivalry of Whores vs. SCJA continues for another week and everyone else doing all they can to upset the two heavyweights.
As the senior most Quizmaster in the state of Texas I always like to leave you with a little advice, some tips on how to do better and get the most out of your pub quiz. Take a look at your scores, if you're doing 60 or better then that means you could be a strong competitor at any quiz in town and this week 6 of our 8 teams earned at least 60. Also, this week's tallest midget (team that played every round and had the lowest score) had a honorable 57 points, not too shabby.
My second bit of advice, if I or any Quizmaster suggets you pick a new team name it is rarely because you are too offensive (really not possible). Instead it is because your team name lacks creativity and is a name we've heard 1,000,001 times. Such was the case with Team RamRod, who I believe did take my advice, "try to come up with something more creative by the end of round one" and thus became Botany Bay. The following are team names you should NEVER FUCKING USE EVER unless you are an unimaginitave dipshit who plays "trivia" at Pluckers:

Just need to get this out of the way.
