I'm stately and plump. I make giant pancakes. I spend too much time in bowling alleys. I'm not above a good dead mother joke. I smoke cigarillos and am irresponsible. When I makes tea, I makes tea.

Fresh team names! This job has turned me into a cold-hearted follower of the news, as the first question I ask about any news on a quiz day is "will this make a funny team name?" In this case, I had actually missed the news until right when I pulled into Barlow's, when I heard it on the radio, which is good, because otherwise I wouldn't have had any idea what was going on. I can be pretty thick. Anyways.. sociopathy! Yay!

We had a very enjoyable crowd last night, with some very excitable new teams mixing it up with the old guard. A real quizzer's quiz last night. We covered hipster cities, we covered short stories, we covered empires, we covered general history (in Round 1, which was essentially random knowledge as the common thread was simply "things that have happened on April 20th".) It really tested the breadth of your knowledge more than any other quiz has, and that perhaps is what allowed Uncivil to take home their first title in their current form. Colebrook Cove, newcomers, kept pace until Round 8, coming up four questions short (which became 8 points thanks to the joker), ending up in second place. The third place prize, which in this case could have doubled as a best team name prize, went to It's Just Not New Years Without a Good Dicking

We saw three perfect scores, all on Round 7: Congratulations to Colebrook Cove, It's Just Not New Years Without a Good Dicking, and Five Minute Mayonnaise.

That was the quiz. Some sad news, next week will be our last week at Barlows, so more than ever, I hope to see you there as we send off the quiz Irish wake style (as drunkenly as possible). I will find some ways to make it special, I just haven't decided what those are yet, but there will be some extra pizzazz. See you there! Happy Thursday!

Fuck anecdotes, let's just talk about what was on the quiz.

Round 1 (Doctor Who?)
Average Score: 6.25
High Score: 8-Uncivil

Every answer was "Dr." something. You won some bonus points (well, fake bonus points, that aren't actually points at all) if you got Dr. Claw, and serious bonus point if you got "Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem". The Muppet Show is the best show in the history of television.

Round 2 (It's Going Down)
Average Score: 7
High Score: 12-The Academy Award for Concealing a Boner Goes to Gandhi (henceforth known as Gandhi's Boner to save time)

A Titanic-themed audio round, with some quality cuts like "Come Sail Away" and "Cold as Ice". 2 teams put that Come Sail Away is by Foreigner, and that made me a little sad inside. Styx, people. Dennis DeYoung. Tommy Shaw. The other guys.. Styx!

Round 3 (Batteries Not Included)
Average Score: 6.75
High Score: 8-Gandhi's Boner

Let's face it, if you played both Stratego and Axis and Allies, you're a special kind of nerd, and that nerd-dom was rewarded in Round 3. Also, I appreciated the inclusion of Guess Who?

Round 4 (Bats and Balls)
Average Score: 5.5
High Score: 6-Uncivil and We ♥ Space

I don't know that anyone correctly identified "Bat Guano" from Dr. Strangelove. That's one I would have gotten, and been super fucking excited about. I love that movie. Also, apparently you guys didn't have as much enjoyment as I did making fun of "Nads" hair remover when you were younger. It's hilarious.

Round 5 (People Rebus - Brand Names)
Average Score: 6.25
High Score: 7-Fly Mohawk and We ♥ Space

It was a visual round, therefore it wasn't read by me, therefore it was boring. Although it did include Goose from Top Gun, so it can't have been all bad..

Round 6 (Bad Career Moves)
Average Score: 5
High Score: 6-Uncivil

I'm sorry if I insulted your intelligence when I made sure you knew that Sandra Fluke only metaphorically killed Rush Limbaugh's career, not murdered Rush Limbaugh. You never know how much people are following the news these days.

Round 7 (Handsome Devils - Double or Nothing)
Average Score: 5.75
High Score: 12-Gandhi's Boner

It was kind of a dick move to use a Johnny Depp movie that involves accents and pirates in any way, when the movie is not Pirates of the Carribbean. Oh well.

Round 8 (Random Knowledge)
Average Score: 9.75
High Score: 12-Fly Mohawk

My brain turned off a bit on account of the alcohol during Round 8. I aced multiple courses on International Relations in college, I promise I know how to pronounce Sinai. And the Marquis de Sade. I made up for it for rocking the proper Russian pronunciation of Lev Tolstoy. Suck it.

That was the quiz. It was awesome. It will happen again next week. You should come. Happy Thursday!

In just two short hours, we covered muppets and fellatio, Quantum Leap and sex dolls, Easter and herpes. On a related note, the average score on the round about herpes and Jersey Shore was only one point lower than the round on Easter and Passover, which only had three possible answers. If you people went to church more often, you wouldn't have so much herpes.

Best answer I remember:
Q: "What's the name of Paulie's Stage 5 clinger on Jersey Shore?"
A: "The Jewish Girl". Having never seen the show, I had to ask if the girl was actually Jewish or if they were just terrible racists, and they obviously were the latter.. Welcome to the quiz, I think you'll fit right in.

Other things we learned: There's been about two iterations too many of The Producers, Kermit the Frog usually has a hand up his ass (explains the voice), and if you're a man, don't ever go to Malaysia, it sounds like a terrible place.

Stat Zone!

Average scores went a little something like this:
Round 1 (Eye of Newt): 5.4
Round 2 (Repeat After Me):
Round 3 (Easter, Passover, or Both):
Round 4 (Fellas, Shows, and Fellatio):
Round 5 (Stick Figure Movies):
Round 6 (Another Round You Don't Want To Ace):
Round 7 (8-bit TV):
Round 8 (Random Knowledge):
Total: 39.778
High: 66

No perfect scores this week, but props to Circle Jerks for as close to a perfect Round 2 as we've had for a while with 14, on their way to a 64, good for second place. Dangerously Delicious were newcomers but no pushovers, winning with a 66, and old-time-favorites-with-a-new-name A Gentleman Spits First took home our third place prize (or immediately spent it on beer).

That was the quiz. Let's all come back next week and really stick it to the man, whatever that means. Happy Thursday!
