I am currently building a patio in my backyard. I decided to do it myself because I'm too cheap to pay someone. People charge a lot of money for patios, and now I know why. Just getting the materials took 9 trips to stores. The stones, sand and patio blocks are so freaking heavy if you don't do it in multiple trips you could feasibly destroy your vehicle. I still had to unload all this stuff and every part of my body hurts.
Even some sore parts couldn't keep me from the hilarity that ensues every Wednesday at PJ's at 8pm. The quiz this week was won by team bloop. Scored 82 points on the back of some literature themed rounds and questions. Second place to "I can run faster horny then you can scared" AKA No Glove No Love. They had a tougher time with the literature stuff.
My favorite round had to be round 7's tribute to film critic Roger Ebert. Ebert died this past week at age 70 after fighting cancer. My favorite memory of Ebert has to be his guest staring role on the animated show "The Critic" from the early 90's. It was also interesting to hear his take on movies from the past 30 years or so. The fact he loved "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and "Toy Story" I think says a lot about his taste.
So I have to go sit on my couch and not lift anything heavier then the remote and my son for a little while. Hopefully next week I will be able to write my blog from my beautiful new patio out back. Unless of course it snows, which is always a distinct possibility. Till then quizzers drink plenty of water and be ready for next week at 8pm.

Syracuse is a basketball town. Our beloved Orange are our only glimmer of positivity many times. Whether it be the soul crushing cold and snow, the local economy being in a tailspin, or the fact girl scout cookies are like 9 dollars a box now, our winter months are pretty devoid of joy. The men's basketball team is a silver lining to all of that. And now, ten years since their last visit, our Orange is in the final four.
Which makes last night's quiz all the stranger. I've grown up in Syracuse, so the idea you'd root for another men's basketball to me is alien as hell. I know other teams exist but none of those teams help deal with 9 inches of snow already in April (not at all an exaggeration).
But the quiz attracts all kinds of people, and apparently some of them are from Michigan. The winners "Michigan by 5" had the top score in the last two rounds to come back and win after being in 4th place after 6 rounds. They ended up winning by 3 points. Impressive! Our pro-Syracuse crowd reacted like a bad guy wrestler won the championship belt.
Second place Bloop did exceptionally well on our novel/haiku review round. They obviously read in the bathroom a lot.
The joker was a major factor last night, with our winners staging their late comeback with the help of a 26-point round 8. All other contenders had elected to use their joker in round 2.
So we will do it all again next week at 8pm with more fun, drinks and questions.

So there I was in round 2. As always, its an audio round. This weeks topics are punk covers. Right before I start, a familiar and yet out of place song rings out over the PA, "Come and ride with me little girl.... On a magic carpet ride"
I'm in the midst of explaining the round, and it stops me in my tracks. Mostly because I don't remember having this song on my computer.I start switching between other channels on the sound board. Where the hell did round 2 go? Did someone hack into my sound board? IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?
"Come and ride with me little girl, on a magic carpet ride"
Finally I plead with everyone in earshot. Where the hell is that music coming from? Luckily one of the ultra-great staff at PJ's diagnosed my magic carpet problem: The Juke Box was turned on. No Ghosts/hackers/anarchists are responsible. From then on, it was smooth sailing. I was still paranoid, but only because I have a deep seeded mistrust of people.
Your winners this week were "Harlem Shaken Baby Syndrome" (AKA No Glove No Love) and our good buddies Lamp. Lamp admittedly over ruled some correct answers by a teammate but still had enough gas in the tank to get to second place. Nice work my peoples.
So we're going to do this all again next week at 8pm for more fun and quiz mayhem. Until then, I hope the rest of your week is as fun as a magic carpet ride.
