You will find me anywhere that fine ales, excellent Irish Whiskeys, video games, and comic books can be found. Just look for the guy that is tea-bagging you with knowledge.

What a great night for my triumphant return, too bad it was our last night at Busters. Hey, at least it was one hell of a quiz. A quiz full of Hipsters, Jocks, and Classical Pop Music.

Round 1 was Duh

Modern Classics was the Music Round. I played a classical cover of a modern pop song, you named the original artist and song title.

Round 3 was Hipster Spelling Bee. You had to spell obscure words that you’ve never heard of, alright so you knew these words but all the sentences I used them in were really obscure.

The Witching Hour was Round 4. This round was all about Midnight.

The Visual Round was You’re What is Wrong With the World. There were 2 groups of people you had to pick one group to name. Either the Smart Awesome People or the People that in my not so humble opinion are such drains on society that they should be taken out back and shot. Oh, and you got double points for the smart people, so once again you were rewarded for being awesome (well at least smart).

Round 6 was Hut Hut Hut. Every answer contained a football term. Luckily none of the questions were about football.

Insomnia is a Bitch was Round 7. I played a clip of a late night talk show host, you named it him.

And we closed the night with Random Knowledge!

Everyone it has been a wonderful run for me here at Busters. Keep the memory alive.

Check out the schedule for our other venues.

And remember no matter what anyone says:

Geeks Who Drink is the Only Pub Quiz That Matters.

And if something is called trivia it probably has to do with pie pieces and geriatrics, so keep the Pub Quiz alive.

Bryan (Resident Egon)

Born on a mountaintop in NYC, crowdedest place in the land of the free. Moved cross the country just tryin' to see, come to California when he was only 3.

Bryan, Bryan the Quizmaster. Duke of the wild frontier. (I wouldn't want to be King...too many assassination atttempts)

Searching for a description to this night of nerd quizzery, I have come to decide one a simple application. Tonight, Long beach, was Epic Sauce. With my biggest turnout yet at Buster’s beach House(yes I am well aware I’ve only subbed once last week…let me enjoy my moment) it was a night of laxative-laden quizzing, O faces, and vegans. Beautiful beautiful vegans…I’m told when the zombies come they’ll realize the vegans taste better and leave us for seconds.

Everyone got down to a little international flavor tonight. We had a couple of fools who made fools of the geeks, a damn fine showing by a late arrival single competitor from across town, and the return again of our LBZ regulars bringing Doom, a 40, and some perfect bowling advice. Now mea culpa…I neglected to ask for the rudest, bluest, most outlandish wrong but funny names you could come up with tonight, and that’s my fault. I take full responsibility for your caliber of monikers tonight…so let’s break out t he magic mirror and see who’s come to Romper Room tonight:

  • The Doombringers - ahem... (it was funny last week, it’s still funny this week)
  • 40oz to Freedom – I’m hoping you felt despite tying for 3rd place, that love is what you got
  • Little Lebowski’s Urban Achievers – this team abides…they very much abide
  • Czech Yourself – thank you foreign lady for making my friend Rachel’s night by asking if we were specially dressed as “geeks who drink”
  • Dwight Shrute’s Army of Champions
  • Coming Late is Better – that’s what she said…
  • Fools in the Rain
  • The five Point Ohs – I’m so happy we had a team playing in full dolby surround

To paraphrase the great Peter Venkman, you came, you saw, you kissed my ass! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…actually everyone was very pleasant…despite my constant haranguing you into heckling me…I’m just too adorable, I know. But Liam Neeson is on The Daily Show, so I’m gonna pause for a moment. I leave you with this brief Neeson link. OK…diversion over…commercial break…back to the GwD business at hand.

Round#1 was THE round of THE game. Everyone wrote THE answers as I read THE questions.

Round#2 asked for your best O face. And you did…you know which team you are you dirty dirty quiz whores

Round#3 was an original unto itself

Round#4 made me giggle. Poop joke! Math question! The two girls in the corner on their own team are the only one who answered that one completely. Take that sexist people who think chicks ain’t good at doing math! Winnie Cooper has a theorem named after her!

Round#5 … oh round 5 … speaking of dirty dirty quiz whoring…

Round #6 got a lot of blank stares at me. I’m tickled peuce to have shared this quiz with so many others in the order carnivore.

Speaking of Round#6, the email bonus question this week:

What skull-faced dude is the head of the DEO in the DC Universe? – Mister Bones(I took director Bones)

Round#7 reached back to childhood for any of us who grew through formative cognizant years in the 80s on TV. I liked it.

Obviously Round#8 was Random Knowledge and as usual…6.3 on the richter scale and kaboom we have new standings in the final. It’s all fun and games until the it starts to suck, so eventually winners had to be revealed. We had a tight game in the upper teams, with 2 points separating first from second, and 1 more point giving us a tie for 3rd place. Given that kind of tight spread on the numbers, I just had to buy a beer for the ones that didn’t end up with the bar bucks.

  • In 3rd – 40oz to Freedom, and Czech Yourself
  • In 2nd – Fools in the Rain (2 gals in the corner come from a slow start to dominate their way to 2nd. By a single point they defeated 10 whole geeks)
  • In 1st – The Doombringers

I’d like to thank everyone in the bar who makes this kind of a Tuesday night possible, especially me. I couldn’t have done it without myself. Sadly this is the week I must wave goodbye and make my walk into the sunrise back east to Orange County. Your regular manservant Andrew will return to quiz you once again next Tuesday. It was an honor and privilege to have cared for you these two weeks, my little nerdlings. I want you to bring all your friends out and more next week. Pack that bar for us…pack it to the brim!

A powerful contention of the nerd kind met in the marina this evening. The Long Beach quiz scene saw the long-awaited resurgence of The Doombringers, but they couldn’t stave off the rush that was the illustrious career of the Fresh Prince, nor the steadfast answers coming out of your sublimely loyal gang from the LBZ

Boats got a little rub n tug, and apparently someone was the meat, all in all a lovely welcome from the Buster’s crew for my month stepping into Andrew’s shoes. I mean have you seen those boats? Boy gives Bob Terwilliger a run for his money…but I digress uselessly. It was lovely as always to see those faces etched into my memory with a white hot soldering iron, but it’s also so nice to meet all the new folks who’ve just stumbled across our Quiz Cave. I asked you all to be creative as you could in those team names, so let’s reveal to the world the fruits of your labors:

  • The Doombringers - ahem...
  • 40oz to Freedom – I’d like to think you smoke two joints in the morning, but you’re probably too busy involved with date rape
  • …And You’re the Meat, Bitch! – It’s refreshing ot know there are people in the world who still have a high enough opinion of me to think I won’t say some things out loud.
  • Little Lebowski’s Urban Achievers
  • Tug Boat
  • Space Cowboy
  • If Will Smith Could Erase memories, no one would remember Wild Wild West(or 7 Pounds, I Robot, Men in Black II)

We had some rises, some falls, and a grand mixup in Round 8 as always. Random means random people! Let’s go over a recap of tonight’s rounds.

Round#1 was a struggle for DOMINANCE! You fought hard, I give you a “D”

Round#2 spoke to us of Lunar Lunacy. And speaking of my favorite moon…

Round#3 was a lovely countdown that I wish I’d prepared a better Casey Casem for…alack and alas…

Round#4 just needed a chance to Dig it’s way into your heart.

Round#5 asked the age old question about someone in a mask. Cause we all love the masks. Superheroes are awesome…solving every problem with your fists in the name of good? Excelsior!

Round #6 assured us tonight that these cakes were definitely not lies. I even got a little help from GlaDOS to affirm that. Well ok she mostly tried to humiliate me in front of the quizzers but hey, everyone could tell she was just channeling that anger down the wrong portal.

Speaking of Round#6, the email bonus question this week:

During the 18th century, the inhabitants of Germany's Black Forest became well-known craftsmen of what variety of clock? Cuckoo clocks

Round#7 wanted so bad to play in the big boy award shows. But Golden Globes or Oscar or People’s Choice, if Andy Serkis doesn’t get some kind of recognition for playing Caesar I call for a bloody revolution.

Obviously Round#8 was Random Knowledge and as usual…6.3 on the richter scale and kaboom we have new standings in the final.

It’s all fun and games until the flying monkeys come and steal someone’s left eyeball, so eventually a winner simply had to be declared:

  • In 3rd – Little Lebowski’s Urban Achievers – a nice effort but someone must have used the Blue Shell
  • In 2nd – 40oz to Freedom - *sung* “Second place, is what you got. I said remember that…”
  • In 1st – If Will Smith Could Erase memories No One Would Remember Wild Wild West

I’d like to thank everyone in the bar who makes this kind of a Tuesday night possible, especially me. I couldn’t have done it without myself. Until next week, my beautiful freaky fun-bots!
