And the bartender said, “What the hell is a hinny?” Well, tonight we learned that a hinny is a hybrid of a stallion and a female donkey. So let’s pause a moment to picture how that happens. Okay, now back to tonight’s quiz recap.
The theme of tonight’s quiz was QUIZ VS. BASKETBALL! It’s really hard to stay focused when there’s so much basketball amazingness going on, but we soldiered through. Round One started the night off with an easy round on state nicknames. We learned that Colorado is the “Centennial State”, and that “Centennial” is hard to spell. Fortunately it wasn’t a spelling round.
The audio round focused on songs about hookers, which sparked some discussion of whether or not Blondie’s “Call Me” is about a hooker. The jury is still out. Queen’s “Killer Queen” has ruined Moet & Chandon champagne for me because I keep singing the song whenever I drink it. Fortunately, on a quizmaster’s income that doesn’t happen often, but I do accept gifts and my birthday’s coming up.
Chris Rock or Chris Tucker? When there’s a round involving choosing between two people with the same first name, you HAVE TO PROVIDE THE LAST NAME IN YOUR ANSWER. Nice try at the loophole and I’m glad we cleared that up before the round got underway.
The visual round focused on some pretty bizarre alternative posters and titles for movies as they were presented in foreign countries. Seriously, what the hell is up with the Star Wars poster that looks like a Jackie Chan movie?
The random knowledge round determined the outcome once again. It was a rough one on several of you. Now In Olden Times played a strong quiz tonight and prevailed. Well done!
Thanks for playing, and see you next week!

Glad you all got to meet your new quizmaster, my grandson, Ace. He’ll be taking over in about 21 years after he’s potty trained. Although being potty trained isn’t actually a prerequisite for being a quizmaster.
Thanks to the group who weren’t listening to the rules, everyone got the first question of the quiz correct. I really don’t thing stoning people who yell out answers during the quiz is appropriate punishment, but thanks for the suggestion. What I can’t figure out is why “The Nutty Professor” was ever made in the first place, and the fact that it was ever remade is even more puzzling.
A round full of songs where we have no idea what the hell anyone is saying, even though we know the songs. Nobody was able to explain the appeal of Natalie Merchant, however. The Sooner or Later round was tough, but you all did a LOT better than I expected. Bravo.
Recently in stuff taught us the difference between Venus and Serena Williams, George and Andy Zimmerman, and Susan Rice and Hillary Clinton. Also, guns. But apparently Round 5 was a weapon, not a gun. For some reason. A round based on stuff mentioned in Barenaked Ladies’ song “One Week” actually ended up being not so much about the song. What a fun one!
Thanks for coming to the quiz! See you next week.

Geeks Who Drink’s facebook page passed 10,000 likes this week, which is cool. Go us!
Tonight’s quiz pretty well covered the range of questions, including an audio clip from Neutral Milk Hotel in Round 2, which made my night. I just heard they’re touring again. If you live anywhere near where they’re playing you should go.
We learned some stuff about Nic words tonight. Eggplant has nicotine in it – who knew? I can now report that it’s very hard to keep lit, so don’t bother. Clairol did an entire advertising campaign back in the day to prove to women that hair color is used by good girls, but if that’s the case, why would they call the product “Nice N’ Easy”? Sounds like, well, a slut.
The Roman Numeral for 10,000 is an X with a line on top. I was going to insert it but I can’t figure out how to do it so I drew a picture of it.
Don’t forget to come to the Game of Thrones quiz this Saturday at 8PM at the Cardinal! In honor of the upcoming theme quiz, we had a round that didn’t have anything to do with the Game of Thrones mostly. Games with kings in them was the focus of round six, which was brutal. One of the lowest round averages ever. Some rounds are like that...
LOVED the video round tonight! 8-bit, RPG-based versions of current TV shows. Awesome. Another Game of Thrones one, but sooooo funny. I’ll probably always picture the tossing-Bran-off-the-tower scene that way from now on. Oh, and helpful hint for finding the screen the round’s being played on – it’s the one everyone else in the entire bar is looking at. This was apparently confusing for some of you.
All Hail Bromo NAILED both 16-point rounds tonight, which pretty much sealed the deal. I think we have a new quiz arch-villain fighting for dominance.
