Big trouble in little Nguyen-town

The quiz at Molly Maguires got off to a ever so slightly late start, but as always, the skilled teams were ready make up for lost time. Round one's bean themed questions remained mercifully unmusical - really guys, we don't need to hear you tooting. Ever. And just to be clear, yes, Carroll's Walrus did indeed say it was time to speak of cabbages and kings, but until you can show me a cabbage bean or a king bean, it's not the right answer! Our first audio round of the evening was called Brother and Sisters. That means – you guessed it – all the answers included the word “brother” or “sister” somewhere in there. Which in turn means that if you put down “Janis Joplin” and not “Big Brother and the Holding Company”, it sadly was not the answer we were looking for. Round three featured all sorts of crazy measurements, and team Make it So showed that they were fully engaged by scoring a perfect round. Round Four focused on bosses, captains and other beloved leaders. Although not quite so large at Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen-town was definitely a close runner up. Round 5 was a bit of a deviation from your regularly scheduled visual round programming, but the powers of memorization seemed to overcome the powers of inebriation, as most teams performed admirably. As a side note, happy birthday to quizzer Ian, who turned 30 at some randomly appointed time in the middle of round 5. The tide turned a bit in round six and seven, which stumped teams with questions of geeky drinks and body swaps. The evening wrapped up with the traditional round of random knowledge and Smarty Pints proved their dominance once again. Shout outs to our second place team Thats the Way Trivia Go and our thrid place team, Team Awesome.

Is there a better way to end the weekend? Some friends, some beer, some pub quiz, all geeks! Despite the minor issue with the mic shorting out, it was another Fab turnout. So, now I know everyone loved the 90s, especially the movies. Shout outs to Smarty Pints, how anyone can identify Cheeseburgers in Paradise from like a 5 second clip of banjos playing is beyond me. We kept things kosher for the night, and by the way…the politically correct way of calling them is: JEWISH PEOPLE or so I am told.

Our night also including flashing and Terry Gross, not to be confused with Terry Gross flashing, and if that didn’t sound like a party, you can always drink more!

Props to Smarty Pints for taking home the first place seat this time. The second place goes to team Awesome! And a new third place team Crockett’s Theme. Good times, good times… See you next Wednesday.

We are back in action! Welcome to another Wednesday edition of that quiz thing we geeks do so well. Round one required some assembly, shout outs to team Awesome for being the only team that got the correct answer for Refrigerator. Common guys, clearly, air conditioning units doesn’t have Serpentine coils. I mean, even I knew that. There were so songs that got you high in round two. And if there is one thing to be learned from in round three, its do not fuck with Joe Pesci… EVER. I mean, this is the guy George Carlin prays too! I am pretty sure if you were a smoker, round four would be easy. I won’t even talk about round five since asking football questions in Texas is a free gimme. Round six brought out the Special Olympics in all of us, cause we are all winners! After some movie tracks for round seven, we moved on to round eight of randomness. Yes, there were 5 Planeteers and not 4, but that doesn’t make Africa a country.

Good run for everyone around, the new champ this time is Dignan Mapplethorpe. Second places goes to Smarty Pints and the third place winner this time is Always on TAP. That’s all for me, see you guys next time.
