A great day to be at the Greenhouse. The CMA Fest has finally ended and we can drive downtown with confidence...not that there's any reason to DO so. Unless you want to play GWD on Wednesdays, but seriously there's not much else but a milion bars, expensive food, nowhere to park, and homeless guys. I guess one would need a big imagination if they wanted to have an adventure downtown...or be incredibly drunk. Tonight's quiz was tough but fair, here's how it played out:
Round 1 was talking about current-events-but-not-so-current-events that occurred last summer. This round gave teams confidence to start playing (they decided around question 7, so I had to repeat a bunch of them...really?!?). Round 2 was some creative mashups of two different artists. I think the JT and Coolio mashup was pretty awesome! (no one cares what I think). Round 3 was a Sooner or Later round where I name cities, and they name the countries. For 2 points or 1 point per correct answer. Mostly everybody went for it and got pretty far, but no aces. Round 4 was about Pools and Rules. I guess people didn't hear me emphasize "BRIEFLY FEATURED" when asking which luxury ship was the 2nd to have a heated pool. I'm sure you readers can figure that one out. Other complaints included the 4-ball in pool as the color pink. One guy argued that I said billiards, which has red and white balls, but why the fuck would I say "the 4-ball is not purple, but what color?"
Round 5 was famous Meryl Streep roles. Round 6 was on tipping, which is why I titled with the Steve Buscemi quote because as a waiter myself he was right. Not about not tipping, but it's a job I chose and I have the choice to quit the job or not...which I may not for a while considering I've been there 6 1/2 years and make pretty decent money now (I said decent, not bank). Round 7 was famous celebrities who were featured as a new Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor. Some teams just couldn't grasp the idea that they had to name the celebrity. I don't give a fuck what song is playing and if it relates to Ben and Jerry's. (yeah, one of those nights, but what do I expect?) Finally Round 8 on random-ass knowledge including national parks, Don Bluth, Christmas lyrics, nu-metal bands, cigarette mascots, and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
It was a close battle for our top two teams. They were one point away starting at round 7, but they got the same number of correct answers as the second place team in Round 8. So our winners tonight were Team Lord of the Wangs: Fellowship of the Wang. Follwing in 2nd place was team Sexting with the NSA since 2006. Congrats to all our teams. Be safe if traveling to Bonnaroo, otherwise stay off the interstate! :P Cowabunga!!!

It has begun. The dreadful-but-for-some-reason-media-praised CMA Fest. Which mean tourists come from all over the country from all ages, just to see their favorite singer hundreds of feet away in a football stadium. Plus all the roads are blocked downtown, so there's no sense in going anywhere near there. Anyway, that didn't hurt the Greenhouse tonight condisering we had a good crowd wanting to play as well as watch the playoff games. Here's how it went down:
Round 1 had all answers that had a state capital within them. We were looking for Otto von Bismarck and BOB Denver as the correct way to answer those questions. Round 2 had every band's name named after one of the band members...except Bon Jovi...we already knew he was the band. Round 3 was fun for me. I read lyrics to a hip hop song, and teams had to guess if the original rapper was white or black. I'm more classy than to start freestyling right now, so I'll keep typing. Round 4 was things about zips, zippers, and zip-a-dee-doo-da-dee-fruity-dooty-doo. Basically nobody had ever heard of Zippy the Pinhead, 10065 is the zip code for Manhatten, and Will Smith loved Adidas. Round 5 was identifying the correct parts to the motorcycle. Ths round was pretty easy I guess...I mean I just say that because every single team aced that round. I guess there are a bunch of harleys parked out back I don't know about!
Tonight, Round 6 was given by Brandon. Some guy auditioning to be a quizmaster for someday in the future. If you want the opportunity, feel free to apply on one of the links above. Anyway, the round was about Generals, Shermans, and General Sherman...Brandon told me before reading the round, "I hate General Sherman...he killed my great great great great grandfather..." Fun Fact: Brandon's from South Carolina and loves Cocks.......excuse me, GAMEcocks. Teams did okay that round, but I find the most important question was understanding that Sherman was the name of the boy in Rocky and Bullwinkle and Mr. Peabody is the dog! Anyway, Round 7 was a 'Listen Carefully' round giving a clip from "I Don't Know, But We Do Have Quiet Conversations." Teams were half and half on this. Some got some right, others got others right. It was a good mix. Finally some Random-Ass Knowledge...it kinda feels good when I say that to the crowd, especially if someone interrupts me in the middle of a question to ask the theme of the round...RANDOM. ASS. KNOWLEDGE!!! Today's Round 8 included Temple of Doom, Military rifles, Party of 5, Global Fortune 500, Google, and Greek god translations.
In the end after being caught in the briar patch halfway through, team Just The Sausages prevailed by dominating the competition with 81 points. In 2nd Place tonight was a new team who like to call themselves Red Hair Don't Care. We did have a 3-way.......tie for 3rd place, but that's okay. We had Willy Wonka remind us of what they won. Until next week everyone stay safe, tip well, don't hit a tourist, don't buy a cowboy hat, and stay away from downtown (except for GWD at Past Perfect on Wednesdays). If no one is here next week, I'll assume everyone is at Bonaroo..I can well imagine all of you being there (especially Uncles :P). Cowabunga!!!

An interesting day here in Nashville. We basically started the say with amazing weather, then it stormed terribly for about...5 minutes, then the sun came out and left us with stupid humidity the rest of the day. Plus, now that school is out I actually got to my day job on time! Here's how tonight went:
Round 1: Every answer began with the letters fee, fi, fo, or fum.
Round 2: Every artist or song had something to do with flying (Jet, Leaving on a Jet Plane, Fly by Sugar Ray, etc.)
Round 3: Speed round asking 8 of the 10 ten CORN producing states by the bushel...not PORN producing states by the Bush...teams did well with this round.
Round 4: Recently in Stuff, featuring Liberty Reserve, the World Cup, Spelling Bee, and Ke$ha (did she seriously tell Huffington Post she would like to fuck the ghosts of Liberace, Patrick Swayze, and a dinosaur?!?)
Round 5: Identify the band's logo...one team labeled the Rolling Stones as "Flaming Lips." They felt really ashamed afterward.
Round 6: Fish was the answer to every question, so teams had to guess WHO was asking the question. Everyone was good on the first half, then they just lost interest. :P
Round 7: Identify the person singing as a male or female. Some were obvious, others were a little difficult to interpret. I did mess with people's heads on the repeat of question 8 by playing some Hanson...
Round 8: Random-ass knowledge featuring Bourbon, fad pets of the 90s, Buzzfeed, fictional presidents, bartending specifics, and Joan of Arc.
All the teams did well tonight, considering half were new, and the other half knew how to lay it down. In the end it was a REALLY CLOSE ONE!!!! But the points still add up in the end, leaving team Pontius Pilates (said like Pil(ah)tes) on top with 72 points. A team that comes in every week, but rarely places. In 2nd with 71 points, team Hard Rain Makes Me Wet. A team that hasn't seen that piece of construction paper in a long...long time. I felt so bad for team Uncles for almost having it, but that's these quizzes for you. Sometimes you feel confident, other times it is the most random shit in the world. Well, until next time we'll be here down at the Greenhouse! We have new prizes now and posters, so tell your friends and enemies! Cowabunga!!
