I'm a good mix of Drink and Geek.  I'm big on the geeky TV and movie trivia, but I can drop some beer and liquor knowledge as well.  I'm 34 years old, but I still constantly get carded...hopefully that's a good thing.

By the way, I stand by my comments from last week 100% after seeing The Avengers.  Best.  Comic book movie.  Ever.    Dark Knight?  Brilliant film, but it didn’t keep a smile on my face for two hours.  But this week I’ll actually write about the quiz.

First we talked about current events, and I played a few Beastie Boys songs in memory of MCA. Then we had possibly the lowest scoring music round I’ve seen…top score was 7.  People just don’t know dance music that well.  Not that I blame them.  We got a round about rams, but no Super Troopers or The Wrestler questions, and we all learned to make yummy things like Hollandaise, Hydrochloric Acid, and Crack.

We came back from the break with questions about buds, but nobody could answer my follow up question about the actress who played the girl that took Bud Bundy’s virginity.  It was Fingercuffs herself, Joey Lauren Adams, by the way.  Then we got to hear Chris Rock playing Pookie in New Jack City, as well as two superheroes (Nick Fury and Batman) as junkies.

We ended up trying to figure up who had a hotel on the top of the world, which was Tibet (Which tied in nicely to the earlier Adam Yauch question, I thought, since he was a big supporter of the Free Tibet movement.

After we got rid of the cheaters (well, I say got rid of, but they left at halftime when they realized even cheating they were getting their asses kicked by everyone else) we were left with 8 teams…and regulars Apocalypse Dickfor  came out the victors, with newcomers Garlock taking second place.

So as I sit here, scarred from losing a fight with a table at a rehearsal for an upcoming play (seriously, that’s kinda what happened.  Shakespeare is dangerous stuff), I leave you with this final thought.

Joss Whedon should always write for Robert Downey Jr.  Always.

What is it with Thursdays and rain?  I swear, almost every week it has rained.  What is this, Seattle?  No…wait…it is ONLY on Thursdays, so I guess not.  The rain held off long enough for the quiz, though, so all was well.  I was disappointed about the lack of Junior Seau themed team names tonight.  Judging from the deluge of Whitney Houston and Davy Jones team names I got after their deaths, I expected at least one…

But at least we had Batman.  Seriously.  One of my regulars dressed as Batman to go to the Avengers midnight showing.  I tried to convince him that Marvel was far better (And the box office would agree with me) but I was unable to.  I will content myself with calling him Abed.  Yes, I am late to jump on the Community bandwagon, but now that I have finally seen most of it, it may very well be the funniest show on TV.    But I digress…the important thing is…Marvel is better than DC.  Period.  Or at least it was when I stopped actively buying comics in the mid to late 90s.  So I will have to content myself with the media I do know, such as movies and video games.  DC really only has Batman, because other than a couple seasons of Smallville, Superman has had horrible movies and TV shows, and the rest of the DC universe is pretty much nonexistent.  Batman has had 2, potentially 3 (assuming Dark Knight Rises lives up to expectations) good movies.  Superman had zero, Green Lantern was atrocious, and the rest of the DC Universe is pretty much absent.

Marvel, on the other hand, has had 2 good Spidey movies, and possibly a third, if the new one is any good, 2 good X-Men movies, the first Iron Man, Thor, probably Avengers, and some decent Blade movies.  The horrible 90s versions of Captain America, Punisher and the Fantastic Four cancel out any good things they might have had in the newer ones. So Marvel wins.  And I didn’t even have to pull the Joss Whedon card :P

In other news, we had a quiz, complete with some very entertaining dubstep versions of TV themes, which prompted me to play the Pinn Pannelle live Skrillex cover afterwards.  After a hard fought game, The Following Teams are Disqualified  won with 69, with Dickfor squeezing into second place with 66.

As I am still here drinking, I am obviously not seeing The Avengers tonight, but I wish all of you that are Excelsior!

Strange quiz…small turnout for the quiz, which is a bit unusual, although the tornado that touched down in an adjacent county might have had something to do with that.  What was stranger is how crowded it was with loud non quizzers.  Had another team I had to penalize for too many people,  and it sucked for them, because they would have gotten second place if they didn’t have the extras.

So we got another ass to mouth round of musical human centipede, with a lot of songs I had never heard of, after a round full of triple entendres…well, triple somethings, anyway.  We got another Say When round, which was a bit difficult for some people, evidently.  I guess they didn’t play enough board games as a kid.

We had almost every team make up for it on the next two rounds, which had alphabetical beginnings and endings, and the draw something visual round, both of which got perfect scores from almost everyone.

After the break we all remembered Wicked Game, and other things to do with sand and sandwiches, and we heard a lot of stand up…there is no way anyone can mistake Chris Rock’s delivery for anyone else.

After getting questions on the Oregon Trail and Rowdy Roddy Piper, both of which I remember from the 80’s and early 90’s, we had a tie for second, and a tie on the first tiebreaker question when both teams came up with the same answer, and then almost a second time when they were one away from each other for my second tiebreaker.  I was going to go to a dance-off if it had happened again…but Jerry’s Kids were able to pull of the tiebreaker over Tickapotamus.  Both of them were a bit behind Everybody say Happy Birthday Bob, however, who came away with the victory, so good present for Bob, I guess.  The cake was certainly tasty :)
