It was another great night at Tommy Doyle’s last night for the Geeks Who Drink pub quiz. The Geeks learned what the age of consent is in eight different states, the raunchy life of #julia, that Ministry is responsible for some really fucked up side projects, and much more.

The top two teams were neck-and-neck throughout the night, but in the end it was Sexpun who finished two points ahead of Red Sox Assemble. I Can’t Get This Quiz Out Of My Hair came in third (is quiz replacing frizz? Or jizz?), followed by Blue State Digital A.K.A. Presidents R Us. One point behind them was Flaming Asian Sauce, then No Name, Jeff Goldblüm, and I CUP.

The breakdown of all the rounds is as follows:

Round 1 (There Can Only Be One) average – 6.5
Round 2 (Dark vs. Light) average – 10 (out of 16 points)
Round 3 (Little Miss Sunshine Is Now Little Miss Legal) average – 5.38
Round 4 (The (Secret) Life of #julia) average – 7.13
Round 5 (Ele-mentality) average – 5.13
Round 6 (Who’s a Good Guy? Who’s a Good Guy?) average – 3.5
Round 7 (Do Not Adjust Your TV Audio) average – 3.13
Round 8 (Randos) average – 9.75 (out of 16 points)

Each question in the first round listed three categories and the answer was the one item that fit all three. The audio round had songs that either had dark or light in the song name or artist. Little Miss Sunshine was a round that listed eight different states, their ages of consent, and an event that happened in that state. The question that the Geeks had to answer was whether someone born on the day of that event would now be legal in that state.

Round four was a round on the Obama campaign’s #julia, listing different aspects of the average American woman’s life. The visual round showed eight individuals whose initials represented an element on the periodic table. The sixth round was on crime-solving canines and the TV audio round played warped TV theme songs.

Sexpun and Assemble had perfect scores on rounds one and four and 14s on the audio round. Hair scored 12 points on the audio round and Blue State Digital had a perfect score on the first round. The TV audio round was a tough one with five teams scoring just three points.

Thanks to all for coming out and joining us. Just a reminder, the Geeks Who Drink pub quiz at Tommy Doyle’s is celebrating its one-year anniversary next week and we will have a special celebration. Come back next Monday for more good times and free prizes and shit!

Last night’s Geeks Who Drink pub quiz was one of the more fun quizzes I’ve read at Tommy Doyle’s where the Geeks were treated to questions on state haikus, fantasy islands, twisted computer game titles, and much more. (Note, all GWD quizzes are fun, but this one took it up a notch, with multiple fucks, cocks, boobs, and even a fart joke involved.)

Finishing in first last night was This Is Frank He’s Spanish who had scores of 12 and 13 on the two 16-point rounds as well as two perfect scores on rounds five and six. Second place had to be determined by a tiebreaker as Revive MCA! and Horse Racing: The Sport of Romneys both finished with 69 points. The first tiebreaker was to write down the digits of pi where both teams were able to go as far as 3.14159265 but no further. The second tiebreaker was a dance off and that too proved inconclusive, so for the third tiebreaker we went to a drink-off where John from MCA polished his pint first to take second place. Dingo Ate My Baby and Emanon rounded out the standings.

The breakdown of all the rounds is as follows:

Round 1 (State Haikus) average – 7.2
Round 2 (Spell It Out) average – 9.6 (out of 16 points)
Round 3 (Gary Busey or Mel Gibson?) average – 3.4
Round 4 (Fantasy Islands) average – 5.8
Round 5 (The Next Best Thing To Cloning) average – 6.8
Round 6 (The Adventures of Crack-Man & Donkey Bong) average – 7.6
Round 7 (Lonely Island Sing-A-Long) average – 6.2
Round 8 (Randos) average – 10.4 (out of 16 points)

The first round had haikus describing eight different states and the Geeks had to name the state. Florida was described using “America’s wang” while Louisiana had “Just show me your boobs.” The second round had songs that spelled something out in the lyrics. Round three was a multiple choice round in honor of National Mental Health Month. The fourth round was on fantasy islands.

The visual round required identifying dead musicians through a distorted image and the sixth round was on computer games where one of the words in the title of the game was replaced with something a little more childish—e.g., instead of Mario Cart, one of the answers was Mario Fart. Round seven had eight Lonely Island clips and the Geeks had to name the guest star, one of which was Natalie Portman rapping about cheating on her exams and smoking weed while at Harvard. The random knowledge round had its share of random questions, including three on cocks.

Thanks to all for coming out and joining us. On a special note, the Geeks Who Drink pub quiz at Tommy Doyle’s is celebrating its one-year anniversary in two weeks and we will have a special celebration. It will involve cake and if the wait staff gets its way, strippers as well. Save Monday, 5/21, on your calendars for this special night.

The Geeks Who Drink pub quiz at Tommy Doyle’s last night featured 10 teams battling it out over questions about green stuff, the number six, old school computer games, and much more; all the while telling me how much they missed me last week. FTR I was off getting bitten by deer ticks (I’m okay! I was prescribed doxycycline. That shit’s like Plan B for Lyme Disease.)

Like the Red Sox bashing their way to a win over the A’s, The Ghost of Tom Choad led last night from start to finish, beating out Justin Timberlake Says “It’s Gonna Be May!” and Disciples of Hildegard for first place. Ali-Hue came in fourth while Say It With Your Chest and Premium Scante tied for fifth. There was also a tie for seventh between Breaking! Osama Bin Laden Still Dead and I Shat Your Pants. Girl With the Mushroom Tattoo and Severely Handicapped rounded out the standings.

The breakdown of all the rounds is as follows:

Round 1 (It’s Not Easy Being Green) average – 3.8
Round 2 (Fast Food Nation) average – 8.9 (out of 16 points)
Round 3 (A Lifetime Supply of Lee Press-On Nails!) average – 5.9
Round 4 (This Round is Brought to You by the Number Six) average – 4.8
Round 5 (Bonfire of the Vanity Plates) average – 2.1
Round 6 (Start, Applications, Games) average – 5.7
Round 7 (Remember When Halle Berry Was Famous?) average – 5.1
Round 8 (Randos) average – 7.9 (out of 16 points)

The first round was on all things green—including Soylent Green. The second round had songs that mentioned a fast food joint. Round three was a speed round on game shows that have actually won an Emmy. Old school computer games were the topic of the sixth round (like Jezzball) and the second audio round featured Halle Berry films.

Thanks to all for coming out and joining us. And thanks again to everyone who voted for Geeks Who Drink for Boston’s best trivia night in the Boston Phoenix’s Best of 2012 awards! Additionally, we are nearing the one year anniversary of Geeks Who Drink at Tommy Doyle’s. There may or may not be something special planned....
