A nice warm night at Dry Dock Brewing Co.- a perfect night for beer and quiz, and the first night for my new co-host, Juan. We had only 11 teams going for ‘gold’, but the competition was keen as always. So keen that we had to settle the final results the in true Dry Dock fashion- Chug off!
Round One had me doing my best Mike Meyers impression. Evil, devils and fruit… an interesting mix. On a quick side note, Juan told me that 4 of the 11 or so goals scored by goalies have been when the Devil were one of the teams, and one was when the Colorado Rockies were playing. For those not up on the greatest game ever- the Colorado Rockies used to be a hockey team, and now they are the New Jersey Devils… sorry, tangent over. Just the Tip got the ace for Round One.
Our first audio round was lame Jebus dripping covers. Twee versions of songs that just make you want to… Anyway, some great scores on Round Two, no perfects, but the early jokers made the rest of the night exciting.
Round Three was a Balderdash round with you giving me the definition of some rarely used words, and in some cases the proper pronunciation. We had some good scores on this round, which always makes me happy- because words are awesome. Tip Your Bartenders and Dutch Rudders got perfect scores.
Crime and Punishment was our Round Four. Gotta love those Russian authors- SOOO upbeat. At least we got a question about one of my favorite filmmakers, and I got to say Leningrad. You just don’t get the opportunity to say Leningrad much these days.
Round Five was a round on celebrity elements… sort of. HUGE excitement on the great scores. Makes me hopeful for the future of science in the US. Aces from Can You Dig It?!?, Just the Tip, Dutch Rudders, 15 Minutes of Foam, Suck it Trebek, and Friends & Family Plan. SCIENCE!!!
We had a special guest disembodied voice for Round Six. The dulcet tones of Ken Jennings read the questions about Jeopardy, Trebek and game shows. See! I told you we were all going to be replaced by robots! Did you listen? Noooooo….
Our second audio round were movies with talking animals, and, well… the animals… they talked. Yeah. After Random Knowledge, Can You Dig It?!? Was our clear winner, albeit by one point, and our Tip teams had to settle it the Dry Dock way- Chug off!
Thanks again quizzlings and we’ll do it all again next week.

Another great night at Dry Dock. We had 14 teams going for the top prize and a surprise at the end. I also signed a contract. I’m now legally obliged to live longer than Matt, so I can QM his wake. Crap… now I have to exercise!
Round One was a Mystery round. I like these because everyone thinks they know what the bonus answer is going to be, and I get ten sheets before I’ve even asked the question. Last night was no different and they all said Shakespeare. Ha! I wanted Stratford-Upon-Avon! Then I made it even more chaotic by insisting that you have the full name. For fun! Tip Your Bartenders aced that one.
Our first audio round was XTREME covers. You have to capitalize that, or it doesn’t work. Some were pretty out there, and some were pretty standard. Scores were all over the place for this one, and I heard a lot of OOOOO… when I played the answers.
Round Three was a speed round about the earning potential of being dead. Who knew you could make so much for kicking off.
We had a Recently in Stuff- World Edition four Round Four. Interesting things happening all over the world, and I am happy to say- I was one of the 650 million watching Man City/Man U. It was a total accident. Chicken Fried Steak got the ace on that one.
Speaking of aces- everyone did awesome on the visual round. Cool TV and great scores go together like two incredibly complimentary things. Perfect scores from Tip Your Bartenders, Chicken Fried Steak, Dutch Rudders, Big Bear & The Jamboree Cubs, Can You Dig It?!?, Blastin’ on Fools, Sweatpants Boners, Panda Porn Stars, and TBD.
Round Six was the ubiquitous I Love My Dead Gay Round- all about gay and dead things. I too am looking forward to the Freddie Mercury movie. We should all go to it together- dressed like members of Queen… from the 70s!
Our second audio round was… I’ve just been informed… dubstep covers of TV themes. Now you know I love TV themes, and I regularly play 5 of the themes from the round, but as I am old, I had no idea what those crazy dubstep kids were trying to accomplish. Now I know. It’s at this point I say, in the end it all came down to Random Knowledge, but not last night- Chug off!
Thanks again quizzlings, we’ll do it all again next week!

You make more money than me? That’s your come-back? Seriously? That’s pathetic. But okay, so you make more money than me. You know what I make? I make you realize you’ve fucked with the wrong Star Wars geek. I make the bar go crazy when I take you down. I make everyone see you as the douche you are. I make your friends embarrassed to be with you. I make the girl you’re trying to scam laugh at you. I make you a running gag. I make everyone go bananas when I play Soft Kitty for you. And finally, in the end, I make you shut the hell up and realize what a loser you are. So, yeah… there’s that…
Back to the important business at hand- Quiz! Thanks again for all the support in dealing with Mr. Short-Sleeved-Mock-Turtleneck, and for the beer! We had 16 teams going for the gold last night, and this is how it all shook out.
Round One was brought to you by the number two, and I can’t believe I actually said ‘make a deuce’. We had some decent scores to start us off, but no one knows all their number twos… and again with the potty humor!
Our first audio round was the Hunger Games. One guy got all excited because I think he thought it was about the film. Poor kid. I watched him deflate through the round as I played ‘hunger’ or ‘game’ songs. It was a good round to joker for a few of you, and I’m glad to see you did.
We had a 'say when' round for Round Three- a good one too- all about Science Fiction movies. My disappointment when you didn’t yell ‘stop!’ as soon as I said Voight-Kampff aside, the scores were initially pretty good… then the subtraction for wrong answers after yelling stop kicked in. Let this be a lesson to you all.
Round Four was a rangefinder history round, with 2 points for knowing the exact year five significant events happened and 1 point for getting it within one. As a historian in training, it always makes me happy to see people do well in these rounds, and you did not disappoint.
Lolkillers was our visual round. You kids sure do like your serial killers, whether they’re real or not.
Round Six was something we called Draft Day of the Dead- a before or after round. Connecting up the names of NFL draft picks with other, sometimes obscure references. I have to admit, I thought the Terry Bradshaw-shank Redemption would trip you all up, but I was happily mistaken.
Our second audio round were the non-Harold and Kumar films of John Cho and Kal Penn. They’ve both made some interesting career choices, and of course it led to the inevitable post-quiz Star Trek discussion. In the end, though, it all came down to Random Knowledge.
Thanks again quizzlings, we’ll do this all again next week- hopefully sans rant.
