Holy crap! Seventeen teams made it out last night. That’s nearly a record for Phoenix Landing! That’s also a whole lot of teams to compete with, but alas, only three teams can leave with prizes. Here’s how all the scores ended up breaking down:
Round 1 (E-ville, Like the Fru-its of the Deh-ville) average 5.5
Round 2 (Jesus Told Me to Make Lame Parodies) average 13.2
Round 3 (Balderdash) average 7.4
Round 4 (Crime and Punishment) 5.5
Round 5 (Ele-mentality) average 6.2
Round 6 (I Got 99 Problems, But Trebek Ain’t One) average 3.9
Round 7 (Animals talk, Just Not to You) average 5.3
Round 8 (Random Knowledge) average 10.0
(Averages are pre-joker scores)
Round one was about fruits, evil, and the devil, and most of you guys started strong out of the gates, but no perfect scores. Likewise for round two, where three teams managed scores of 15 out of 16 (We Need a Beer for This and Jenny and the Bets). I think the one a lot of people missed was the “artist” who originally performed Honky Tonk Badonkadonk. Shame on you for not knowing Trace Adkins! Sorry, just kidding, his music sucks. Round three was balderdash, and you guys killed it. Due to all the high scoring, after three rounds the top ten teams were separated by only seven points!
Round four was about crime and punismhment. Again some good scores here, but not a lot of you knew the movie Crimes and Misdemeanors. It’s pretty sweet. There were some good ‘80s era Woody Allen guesses anyway, but not from That John Denver’s Full of Shit who guessed Lord of the G Strings. But at least they’re trying. A tough round six on game shows and things was read by Ken Jennings’s disembodied voice. Round seven was talking animals, and I had totally forgotten about the talking dog in Schindler’s List until you guys reminded me. Nice going. Congrats to the Mockingjays for winning a kickass Geeks Who Drink shot glass for getting the email bonus question right. Now they can practice drinking at home!
As always, round eight was random knowledge, and I learned that you guys all hate punk music. Or at least questions about punk music. Well tough, that’s how it goes at GWD. Rondo! finally managed to break out of fourth place and win. Second place went to Jean-Claude Van Damsel in Distress, and third went to The Bronies. Come back next week and bring your friends so we can make it a nice even 20 teams!

That’s right, we keep it classy around here – nothing says tasteful like a dead, gay round. Plus we had a whole lot of dubstep and shitty cover to keep you guys entertained. It was truly a pinkies up kind of night last night. Eight teams came out to compete, and here’s how you all did:
Round 1 (Mystery Round) average 5.1
Round 2 (Xtreme Covers) average 8.5
Round 3 (I’ll Earn When I’m Dead) average 3.3
Round 4 (Recently In Stuff: Around the World Edition) 7.1
Round 5 (Do Not Adjust Your TV) average 7.6
Round 6 (I Love My Dead Gay Round) average 4.3
Round 7 (The Last Time Something This Big Dropped It Ended World War II) average 3.9
Round 8 (Random Knowledge) average 8.8
(Averages are pre-joker scores)
The first round was a mystery round, and the mystery was: it’s Shakespeare. I think a lot of you figured it out about halfway through the round. It was no challenge for Meepos or Fried Chicken Sando Calrissian, who unsurprisingly stayed on top the whole night, which is just how they like it Round two was Xtreme covers, and it was a tough one, as was round three, the round about dead celebrities. Every team but one scored three points on round three, so congrats to you Sometimes It’s Hard for getting a whopping 5 points on the hardest round of the night.
Rounds 4 and 5 were a breeze for all of you, with scores of seven and eight all around. Round six was the dead gay round, and a lot of you thought we’d stoop so low as to have a question about Jeff Dunham on our quiz (this means you House Targaryen and Sebastian-Coffee). And shame on all of you for not knowing the round was inspired by Heathers. Your homework for next week is to watch that movie and see Christian Slater blow himself up. Whoops, late spoiler alert. Round 7 was dubstep, because everyone loves the sound of underwater farts, right? It was another tricky one, but not for Ambeyoncé Knowles, who scored a whopping 7 points.
At the end of the night, Fried Chicken Sando Calrissian took home first place, Meepos came in second, and Ambeyoncé Knowles rounded out the top 3. And House Targaryen came in fourth. Again. Special thanks to Sometimes It’s Hard for their drawings. I hope to see you all again next week.

Last night we had eleven teams make it out for the quiz, despite (or because of) the Bruins game being on TV. Well the Bruins lost, but everyone’s a winner when they come to Geeks Who Drink at Phoenix Landing, some of you are just more winners than others. It was a pretty hard quiz, and we had a whole slew of new teams show up, and a lot of you guys still managed to post some big numbers. Here’s how the rounds broke down:
Round 1 (This Round Brought to You by the Number Two) average 5.2
Round 2 (Hunger Games) average 9.5
Round 3 (Say When: Sci-Fi Movies) average 4.3
Round 4 (Rangefinder History) 10.4
Round 5 (Lolkillers) average 5.0
Round 6 (Draft Day of the Dead) average 4.7
Round 7 (Harold and Kumar Leave White Castle) average 4.9
Round 8 (Random Knowledge) average 10.0
(Averages are pre-joker scores)
Round 1 was brought to us by the number 2, and everyone most teams did pretty well here, including a perfect score for Periodic Table Dancers, which was a sign of how the rest of the night was to go for them. They were the only team who knew that “2 Legit 2 Quit” was in the Addams Family. Round 3 was a Say When round about sci-fi movies. This is the type of round that separates the nerds from the geeks (I’m looking at you, Up the Gasshole and Wyld Stallyns).
The crowd seemed presently surprised at the round 4 theme, which was Rangefinder History. The crowd could be heard dating themselves as they tried to remember where they were when Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested. Speaking of Jeffrey Dahmer, the picture round was covered in those wacky Lolkillers! Only one team knew who the Bow Tie Killer was (from the movie Problem Child). I think that team scares me more than any of the serial killers in that round. A before and after round about the NFL draft came next, and House Targaryen sure knows their football. They scored quite high on that round, as did Quiz On Your Pants. After 6 rounds, Casterly Yacht had moved up in the rankings and Sang, Save Us from North Korea had started to slip.
After 8 rounds, Periodic Table Dancers took home first place, followed by Up the Gasshole in second, and newcomers Quiz on Your Pants came in third. See you all next week!
