I woke up on Tuesday morning, business as usual; until, that is, I found a couple of colorful envelopes in my backpack. Inside were goodbye cards, one from long-time regulars who played this Monday night as The Wily Chineses Will Miss Brittany and Kc, the other card signed by the entire bar, staff and all.

That's when it really hit me: that was my last night as Quizmaster of the Blue Star Cafe & Pub.

Guys, I'm a mess; I'm going to miss the hell out of that place! It was just over a year ago that I went in to host a quiz for my very first time. My voice shook almost as much as the question sheets in my hand, and I spent too much time mentally rehearsing all of the things I might have to say to hecklers ("Hey, it's Uncle Frankie! I haven't seen you since you left for that rehab center. Gotta say, I'm a little disappointed you're back at the bar…", etc.).

Soon I learned I didn't have to worry about hecklers at the Blue Star, because it wasn't just a bar-- everyone there became my family. From the guys frying up green beans in the kitchen, to the quizzers who came back week after week, to the very lovely servers, to Bartender Beth (who serves up the meanest Whiskey Sour this side o' the hills!); heck, even the Knitting Club is like family!

Okay, the Knitting Club is more like extended family.

And you, the person reading this right now: you are like family. Because anyone who shared this experience with me at all, whether you were there for one quiz or all of them: you helped mould me into the confident, happy, loud, ridiculous Quizmaster that I am today, and I cannot thank you enough.
This is what love looks like.

I like you guys. Speaking of guys, The Wileys took First Place, but they weren't playing for the prizes; they were there to give me and Scorekeeper Kc a proper send off.

And by "proper send off", I mean slightly romantic ice cream cake.
Yes, one of them has a "Haagen Daaz Hook Up", which could mean lots of things.

I love the cake, and I love the Blue Star. Don't stop quizzin' on account of little ol' me!

Monday night was a blast... of whiskey! Am I right? High fives, anyone?!

...anyone? No? Knitting Club?

Regardless of whether or not they drank as many whiskeys asScorekeeper Kc and I (we ran that place bone dry), hopefully quizzers were caught up in the rush of the quiz the way that I was.

I had my giggliest round ever: Round 6, The Adventures of Crack-Man and Donkey Bong. We also saw one of the low-scoringest rounds ever at the Blue Star, and it was a 50/50 round! To be fair to those low scoring quizzers, Garey Busey and Mel Gibson are practically the same person; I can see your confusion. It wouldn't have surprised me if I had seen "Tom Cruise" as a write-in answer at any point.

That's right, Maverick: you're on a highway to the Danger Zone (which is, of course, the point at which you're considered as crazy as Garey Busey and Mel Gibson).

First place team The Bob Loblaw Law Blog (you might remember them from such blogs as "He got me to say 'Pen Is'...") dominated the quiz, followed by one man team What Makes You Think I Won't Cut You? and team Super Moonlighting, a team name so rare we only see it this close up once a year.

It's Like A Jungle Sometimes

I'll admit, things got strange at the very beginning of the quiz: a drunk, drunk man tried to start a fight with me.

Upset about the quiz interfering with the Mariners game (which didn't overlap at all [and by the way they lost]), he came up and started making personal attacks after having poked around on my blog. Well, I didn't like that, and neither did my scorekeeper/ man friend Kc, who as it turns out is pretty strict about enforcing Rule 2: "Don't F*ck With The Quizmaster".

Don't push him 'cuz he's close to tha edge (seriously, he'll kill you dude).

He wanted to take chunks out of that guy. Anyway...

The quiz itself was equally dramatic, as a handful of teams bounced back and forth between the top spots. Eventually Hangin' With Mr. D.B. Cooper soared to the top spot with a team name containing references that more people really should have understood.

To break up the tie for second place, I asked the tiebreaker question to What Makes You Think I Won't Cut You? and This Is My Boomstick, the answer of which was a number. Both teams were wildly off, but Cut You was slightly less off than Boomstick, earning them the $15 gift card to spend next time at The Blue Star Cafe & Pub.

Oh, and to that one quizzer about that one question: the city of Luxembourg is a lovely little place in (where else?) Luxembourg. Quaint, historic and gorgeous, it is also called Luxembourg City by many to distinguish it from the nation. However, it primarily identifies itself as Luxembourg, and nothing else. I stand by my decision, but it doesn't mean I don't really like you!

I really like everyone at the Blue Star: Kc, the wait staff, Bartender Beth, the Knitting Club, the quizzers.... well, everyone but that super drunk guy.
