Well folks it has come to this. The Geeks that be have asked me to come in and QM the magic that is Harpo's Tuesday Night. I was warned that you guys have a tendency to chew up and spit out QM's but I am unafraid. Perhaps stupidly, but unafraid. I am more afraid of the sound system, but I'll fight it (and WIN!!) in the coming weeks.
Not exactly sure how to blog for this venue yet, so we'll keep it nice and simple this week. I actually trained at Harpo's all those years ago when I was starting out with Geeks. I had just moved here and Dave was very gracious and let me know how I sucked and how to get better. So, I was somewhat nostalgic when I came in tonight. I gathered up a scoring monkey just in time and we went about to give you guys a great distraction for your evening.
You all seemed very nice to me (and also to my monkey), but this might just be because it was my first night and you guys like to play with your prey. Nonetheless you guys brought the pain on rounds. Lots of perfect rounds all night. Many of you knew your First Ladies. The other day I was thinking about Josie and the Pussycats. I wasn't thinking about the show but the relatively alright movie with the oh-so subtle song "Backdoor Lover."
Anyway, I had a great night with you guys. I am quite excited to be your new QM. You are all lovely and attractive people. See? It isn't just your mother who thinks so.

WE'RE BACK AND BETTER STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE SOUND SYESTEM! Seriously though, why the heck can't I play the theme songs from some blasts from the past without them sounding like they're coming through a string and a tin can sometimes? The joys of a half-functional soundboard will do that sometimes. I'll make sure we find a better work around for next week. Can't apologize enough for that. The soundboard here can be one unpredictable bitch sometimes.
Notes from tonight:
I missed you guys. Two weeks without quiz is too long. Think of all those April snow storms you missed out on having to drive home through.
To the team that answered the Harry Potter question with "We don't read that shit": We know. Please read some shit. Any shit. It will win you free beer and shit down the road. At least appreciate a good BJ joke here or there.
A personal favorite moment of mine though would have to be during the pope question in round eight, where some fair gentleman shout out that "pope" actually means "child fucker" within ear shot of an actual ten year old. I found this hilarious, especially when I received complaints about the language of the quiz a few weeks ago. I don't care how PG we word these questions, scenarios like that will always be funny to me.
The Tower of Babel and McDonald's questions had me thinking: I think we should give the whole building-a-tower-to-heaven thing another shot. I think between global engineering, cultural globilization, and the internet, we've bonded to the point where we can probably give that whole pissing off the G-man thing another shot for shits and giggles. We'll call it a "space elevator" or whatever. It'll even create jobs. Somebody write Obama a letter and tell him we're on to something.
Nevermind, I'll do it myself.
