Well, well, well. It looks like we have a new contender in the ring! Through the past few months, we’ve seen great teams rise and fall. The indomitable Midnight Society, the wild Wranglers, the varied Caboose, and even the eloquent “Shouty Guy”. Right when these folks get on a 12-week winning streak, a new team arises and conquers all. Our current title-holder is a relative light-weight (2 person team, versus the traditional 5 or 6 person powerhouses), but they are still getting scores that get close to our all-time highs. Of course, I’m talking about the suave My Vajayjay’s A Painin’!. That’s right, our new Pub Quiz staple team has been destroying the competition as of late, and we couldn’t be prouder!
I’ve been adding a lot of variety to my diet as of late. Normally, I get myself one of the ever-perfect Pub Wraps. Turkey, Bacon, all sorts of goodness. But as they say, variety is the spice of life. The Spice Must Flow! I’ve been experimenting with Breakfast Wraps, Breakfast Platters, Breakfast Tacos…but last night, I think I found my new favorite combination. Breakfast Sandwich. Yes. Eggs and cheese on a sesame bun, with peppered bacon sticking so far out that you can wrap it around the bun! I made a pirate hat out of the giant piece of lettuce that came on the side, and someone ate all my hashbrowns while I was looking the other way.
Folks. Loved. The audio round. I actually had people come up and shake my hand after the audio round because they loved it so much. It feels good to know that Rihanna, Robert Palmer, Katy Perry, and Lynyrd Skynyrd can move so many people. The “Hot American States” was also a little mind blowing. When I say you have 2.5 minutes to answer, you are free to use all 2.5 minutes. You are also free, I suppose, to finish before I even get the round timer started, rush the paper up to me and inexplicably get all 8 answers right. Not sure how that happened, but congrats.
Best moment of the night:
“This round’s theme is…69!”
“Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!”
“That’s right folks, 1969!”
“Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!”
Aaaand…that’s a wrap! Pub Wrap, or normal wrap? We’ll know next week. Oh, and may I recommend the Cucumber Kamikaze? Made my night complete.
Love you all, see ya next week!

All right! Now this is what I like to see in a quiz night! Pre-game with a Breakfast Wrap and a pint, and we’re ready to go! The drink specials were particularly awesome…I somehow managed to get a whiskey double served up in a martini glass! Best of both worlds. We all learned a lot from our fellow quizees last night. For example, did you know that Bacon is one of the more popular entries on the Periodic Table of Elements? We also learned that Washington D.C. is home to the LGBTQ-friendly neighborhood called, “The Gay Cube.” Riiiight.
Our first round was a good warmup for everyone. It was almost a full blackout, with nearly every team scoring a full 8 points on that round. I guess folks know how to rhyme, whoda thunk it? The jury is still out on how “orange” was one of the possible answers. Our audio round was very…smoky. Congrats to SuperDave for knowing that “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” is by the Platters. And nobody listens to Spoon or Lifehouse. Good for you!
We had an awesome experiment in cutthroat quizzing, and it was spectacular. I read off a series of hints, and YOU get to decide when you’ve gotten enough info to make an educated guess. And if you got it…you can screw over the other teams. Genius! Folks started getting a little gungho and calling a halt to hints looooong before it was appropriate. But its fun to watch people guess randomly. No, Silence of the Lambs is not traditionally considered a Christmas movie. But nice try.
As usual, everything was neck and neck through the first 3 rounds. Loose Slots took a quick lead, but couldn't hold up against the likes of Binary Solo, Take Me Home Tonight, and our big winners, Myopic Cyclops! Other notable teams were the ever popular SuperDave(s) and the well-named My Vajayjay's A Painin'! Had a blast playing the after-party Munchkin game. Stick around next week, there's plenty of Long
Island Ice Teas to be had!
See you all next time!

Say it with me folks: “Packed House.” What with the SuperPac in the middle of the room, the slew of relatively new teams, and the triumphant return of Midnight Society, this was our busiest night in recent memory. Naturally, the questions were hot, the drinks were overflowing, and the atmosphere was electric.
Before I dive in the nitty gritty details of last night, I want to bring to your attention something that I never thought would happen. For months now I have preached the glory of the Central Saloon Pub Wrap. So meaty and affordable, I never thought it would be unseated as the obvious culinary choice for Quiz Night. But lo and behold, I discovered the all-day breakfast menu last night, and decided to take the path less traveled. And what a path it was! Folks, I am proud to announce that I now endorse a foodstuff that completely blows the Pub Wrap away. The everluvin' Breakfast Wrap. Eggs! Cheese! Tortilla wrap! Hash browns, awesome salsa, and YOUR CHOICE OF SAUSAGE, HAM, OR BACON! That’s right, I said it. BACON! Oh man. I have never been so happy in front of a plate and a pint. So give it a shot next time you are in. It is paired well with every beer on tap.
After a staggered start, AUSTRIA! we got round one underway. The questions EVE! were pretty basic, covering G-rated love stories from various SMURFETTE! media. This was a good way to SNOOPY! get new teams eased into Quiz Mode. By blending early LADY AND THE TRAMP! cartoon favorites and classic SANDLOT! 90’s films, everyone can feel good and have a BEAUTY AND THE BEAST! strong score to start off the night right. Of course, it helps if someone shouts out all the answers.
The audio rounds were much appreciated, aside from the Disturbed clip. Apparently our quizees have taste in music, which is a good sign. The rest of the night can be summed up by dead birds, Chicago, and Legends of the Hidden Temple.
Even with multitude of teams last night, the scores were fairly even for the whole run. Midnight Society teamed up with the Phoenix Baristas and made a Mega-Midnight Society, topping out with an 80+ score. Whoa. Late-comers Meow Cats brought some color to the crowd, while the twin Cloud and Austickle Me Elmo kept our noise level to an enjoyable roar. Loose Slots musta been under the weather, but Super Dave still brought it! My Vajayjay's A Painin'! came in with both guns blazin'. Check the scores, check the pics, and I'll see you all next week!
