Sean McNeil (Shamu) was the fourth killer whale ever captured and was the third orca ever displayed in a public exhibit. He was the first orca to survive more than 13 months in captivity and was the star of a very popular killer whale show at SeaWorld San Diego in the mid - late 1960s. After his death in 1971, the name Shamu continued to be used in SeaWorld "Shamu" orca shows for different killer whales in different SeaWorld parks. Little is known about Sean McNeil’s reincarnation as an audio visual tech nerd and publisher, but it has been proven that he was, in fact, a killer whale.

It breaks my heart to leave Dad Watson’s.  In three months I watched this quiz go from nonexistent to being able to pull in a hundred people for a night of drinking with friends and playing quiz.  I got to know the excellent staff at Dad’s, and I made friends with members of the crowd I looked forward to seeing every Monday.  You guys got my nerd jokes most of the time, and gave me just the right amount of shit when those same jokes fell flat.  I have never felt so welcome at any of my shows as I have at this one.  In just three months we raised hundreds of dollars for charity in one night, posted some damn good scores on the Geeks Who Drink leaderboards, and created a little community of great people that I’m justifiably proud of.  It was a great show, and I owe it all to you guys.

As you know, Dad’s is closing down for their nine month move, and I know that’ll be it for a lot of you.  I don’t blame you at all; we had a good run.  However, if you’re down for hanging out some more, I’ll be trying to get a new Freemont quiz off the ground over at the Auld Dubliner every Wednesday night at 8, with Dad Watson’s blessing.  Hope to see you there.

With both affection and sarcasm,

That’s right, ladies and gents. The Dad Watson’s quiz is on its way out. You guys have been a great crowd, and quiz night has actually been a big success for Dad’s, as well as for your friendly neighborhood quizmaster. Unfortunately, Dad Watson’s will be leaving the Freemont area and moving to a new location soon, and the downtime is going to be something like nine months. So, at least for now, we’ve only got one more quiz coming up at Dad Watson’s.

But fear not!  Not only will we go out with a bang next week, but I will continue to have a Freemont quiz.  I’ll post more details as I can, or you can sign up for the weekly e-mail. Either way, you’ll be able to keep gettin’ your quiz on.

On to tonight!  All the regular faces made it in, but we were hampered by the nice weather.  Show a Seattleite a little sun and everything else goes out the window, I swear.  Tonight’s round 7 was a big hit, even with those who scored poorly.  I thought Nerdy Little Scientist, an super-team composed of all stars from both Nerdy Little Secret and Back Off Man, I’m A Scientist had things locked down when they went into round eight with a five point lead and a joker to spare, but Full Frontal Nerdity managed to make up the difference with a nearly perfect jokered round, winning by only a single point. And team Gomez walked in for their first quiz night and managed to hang with the big boys, despite only having two members.  If that doesn’t impress you, it should.

Gang, I’d love to make our last night at Dad Watson’s a big one.  Hope to see you all for one last bash!

??We had one team that was all about the Wibbly Wobbly, Timey Wimey.  Fortunately, I can’t imagine the Doctor cheating on pub quiz, so I’m going to assume that you did not go back (forward?) in time for the purpose of securing your second place prize.  I do not have any way to keep track of a TARDIS, however, so you if you’re really intent on using time travel to fake quiz knowledge, I guess I can’t stop you.

Speaking of the Doctor, I’ve been watching season two of the new series lately.  SPOILER WARNING: any time he and his companion are locked out of the TARDIS or the TARDIS is destroyed or lost forever?

THEY GET IT BACK.

Now you know and you can get on with your lives!  Congrats.

I announced the news, but we will only be having two more Monday nights there before Dad Watson’s is forced to close up for god and moving.  Keep coming out so we can bid McMennamin’s, one of the longest running brewers in Seattle, the fond fairwell it deserves.

*sniff*

I think I’m tearing up inside.  Carry on the good work.
