So pretty much I'm probably supposed to make a big deal of the fact that we had a round guest-hosted by Ken Jennings last night. Well, in absentia. So, his second book just came out in paperback, and I played you an mp3 of him reading hard-ass questions about game shows. I don't think anyone in our venue cared much one way or the other, but my coworkers (a lot best described as malcontent to begin with) went on a pretty unprecidented bitch-fest about the audio quality &c. So, sorry if it sucked, but thanks for being cool with it. And, for what it's worth, y'all averaged an even three points on that round. Yay.
Lick my Love Pump went for the high score on that round of five points, and indeed ended up with the high score on the evening. However, they were playing with seven people, and were kind enough to point out this fact ahead of time and I santioned their points behind the scenes in accordance with company policy for dealing with this transgression. Like, really, I don't care -- the more, the merrier, right? But it's kind of not fair to the other teams. Company policy is to revoke their joker in this situation. It has happened, at least once, in the past, that a team won anyway in this situation, but last night this would have landed them at 76 points and just out of the money. So, thanks for being good sports, love pumpers, and your honesty is appreciated.
We did end up having to resolve a tie for first place, which was settled with the inagural foot race of this summer season. And check it out, holy shit, Quizgasm won it. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. They've been coming here in some form for like two years and generally suck but must have gotten smarter or something and totally took first after that tiebreaker. Honerable mention goes for sure to John J for giving the race a go. I sincerely wish you could be winners as well.
Next week: less Ken Jennings. Less Fall Out Boy (hopefully). More, uh, other things. See ya then.

So about two minutes before quiz started up last night, my soccer team lost to the second-worst team in the league. This left me in a bit of a bad mood. Well, as long as "bad" is taken to be synonymous with "getting as drunk as possible as fast as possible".
A few of the other quizmasters just introduced me to a house rule they employ, called "a point a pint". Since we are McCabes and do everything better than they do, I upgraded that to "two points a shot" and broke out, for the first time in quite a while, the shot counter. That resulted in eight points being distributed in about five minutes and that's about the last thing I have the remotest semblance of a clear memory of.
So how'd it end up? Well, there was a tiebreaker of some sort, and then I'm pretty sure I forgot to hand out the gift certificates. Good thing you are all regulars, I'll hook you up next week. Earlier if you know how to find me, and I'm sure most of you do. Brainiacs, I'll run yours by the store for free comic book day. How's that sound?
I'm going back to bed.

But a good one! Not only was that one of the longer quizes we've seen, it has also provoked one of the longer discussion threads on our internal site, with my comrades-in-quizmastery bitching about how long it was.
And, of course, making the corresponding dick jokes you'd expect.
Oh and hey speaking of dick jokes, it was brought to my attention that Daniel Tosh played the Pikes Peak Center last night. All I gotsta say is, it's a good thing that guy doesn't draw the same crowd we do at all...
If you're one of those regulars who was absent last night but is reading this anyway because you're that hooked (and I know there are at least two of you out there) please come back I missed you.
That being said, we still had a strong showing of eleven teams who all stuck around til the end and vied for that huge pile-o-points. We had some newcomers called Work Friends. I talked to them afterwards, and it turns out that one of their four members has played quiz as much as once before. But, check that out to the left there. They said they'd be back and, if I were you, I'd be worried.
We also had some newcomers, seven of them, all sitting together. I was keeping an eye on them because, you know, sometimes new teams (you were new, right? I don't think I recognized you...) don't know that there's a teamlimit of six. It turned out not to be a problem as they had split into two teams: one with six people and one called Token Brown Guy. Dude didn't play half-bad, either, all by himself, but seriously other team that was kind of fucked up. Token Brown Guy, it seems like maybe you need some new friends. You can find them here!
Oh yeah and then there were also a bunch of questions and a bunch of reading and a bunch of points (although, as was pointed out to me, even at 90 points we did not overtake the house score record) and blah blah pretty much you had to be there.
Like next week. Be there.
